About Me:

Hi, so, why sign up for this? I love post, I love mail. I think there is something strangely special about recieving an actual letter dropping through the post box which has nothing to do with work! And that's why I'm here. I'm a consultant archaeologist by day so I spend far too many hours sitting in muddy holes or standing in lecture theatres talking. The post I do get is work work work and I'm kindof bored of emails, so lets send some letters!

Also, I live in a wonderful part of Wales with outstanding views, but I cant even see my nearest neighbours house its so far away, so exchanging letters with people from around the world would go a long way to saving me from the isolation! You could also be an essential person for me to rant about my rugby team.

Requests:

(08/11/09. At this point in time, sadly, I dont see how I can take on any new penpals. Related to the PhD I mention below, all that lovely spare time I used to have seems to be flittering away, so for now at least I don think I can make any new penpals.)

Anyone who loves to write letters, and from anywhere in the world. My grand plan is to have penpals in every continent in the world, so far I have made new penpals here in North America and Europe, so I have big gaps left in the world to fill (but I'm more than happy to more penpals in places that I'm already writing to); I'd especially like to focus a bit east of where I'm writing to at the moment, India perhaps, and going further, Japan would be interesting as well. Maybe somewhere in South America as well, variety is essential!

So long as you are happy to write a letter on an actual piece of paper every once in a while, then I'll be happy and will do the same in return.

11/07/09. As of now my priorities are going to be changing a bit. I'll be starting my PhD soon, which will result in me doing some comparative studies of heritage sites in various parts of the world. If anyone has an interest in heritage studies, in particular from  Serbia, Poland, Ireland, India, Iceland or Greenland, I would very much like to talk to you.

Otherwise it's penpalling as usual. Generally if I'm already writing to a someone in a country then thats it for new penpals, America was an exception because the place is so damn big. Because I am already writing to people in the following countries I probably wont accept any new penpals from: Denmark, Finland, Germany, South Korea, and the United States of America, but feel free to try and change my mind :)

Interests, Hobbies, etc.:

Archaeology is a difficult thing for me to shift from my head so I think that has to count as a hobby, outside of that, I like rugby, painting and wandering around the countryside, mostly hunting out old ruins and climbing inside. The rugby might not blend too well with the other two, but variety is essential!

And gaming, possibly for this (V) moment alone!

Favorite Music:

Pretty varied, I go to alot of music festivals in the so called summer so I get my fix of most genres.

Saying that, music I’ve been listening to most recently would include: 9Bach, AC/DC, Tori Amos, Bat for Lashes, Bjork, Bowie, British Sea Power, Dreadzone, Euros Childs, Caravan, Catatonia, Cate Le Bon, Leonard Cohen, CSS, The Decemberists, Derwyddon Dr. Gonzo, Fflur Dafydd, Genod Droog, Goldfrapp, Gorillaz, Grateful Dead, The Hives, Love, Manu Chao, Neon Neon, MGMT, Mott the Hoople, Radio Luxembourg, Santogold, Sly Stone, Swci Boscawen, Super Furry Animals, Tinariwen, Thyrd Eye, YES, The Who

Favorite Movies:

Again, very varied here, in the last week I've seen a sci-fi, rom-com and a thriller in the cinema. I would say I'll watch it if its good, but I do watch alot of crap and still enjoy it!

Indiana Jones of course rules the roost in my house, but anything from the wonderful world of Simon Pegg's brain is fine by me.

Favorite TV Shows:

At the moment I'm watching alot of ROME (second series for Christmas woot!) again. I loved that series! I suppose I do enjoy the historical epics more than most shows, I can really get lost in those shows.

I recently re-discovered Thundercats, some 120 episodes worth, brilliant nostalgic cartoons!

Oh, and is it wrong to like Relic Hunter? That has to be guiltiest pleasure, just for the theme tune, does television get better than this?...Probably.

Scrach that, Bonekickers on DVD this week, that has to be my guiltiest pleasure...an archaeological drama thriller, what better eh?!

Favorite Books:

January's books include Shane Warne's Top 100 cricketers...it's not rugby but its still a fine sport.

Generally open to suggestion. When I do read non work books I get guilty about not reading the work books, so please, suggest something to me that will capture my imagination!

Favorite Quotes:

'Don't mess with me, I'm an archaeologist!'

'The jug is broken, it cannot be mended with regret'

Follwing Wales' defeat to France, this is a good one:
'I've been fearful of defeat, but now that it is come it's not near as terrible as I'd expected, the sun still shines, water still tastes good...glory is all well and good, but life is enough nay?'
