Sorry I missed you at the break of day
I was somewhere nowhere to make my pay
Missed a new sun dawning, bringing hope and spawning
to innocent lives of natures calling

Sorry I missed you on bright midday,
when a life is ended by a bird of prey
To be darkened later in a farmers snare
Giving life and hope for a mothers care

Sorry I missed you as the evening falls
to blinded petals as darkness sprawls
it's last sunset to some sweet soul,
by unwelcome guests to fill their bowl

with a goodnight kiss from the twilights zest
On some golden hillside light fading fast.

Anyone who quotes Tom Waits simply rocks! :) Between him and his partner (Eileen Brennan, who writes a lot of the lyrics) I'm not sure which I'd be more afraid of being trapped in an elevator with! :) I've got almost all his albums, it's the only thing to listen to on a quiet Sunday.

What about Paul McCandless? I've seen him play two tooters when touring with the Flecktones...music I never grow tired of...
