About Me:

I'm Jude.

I'm not conceited and I don't think I'm better than anyone, I just think that everyone else sucks and that they're all worse than me.  Approach with caution.

Latest recommendation:  The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.  I've never read the books but the 2006 anime was an amazing experience for me.  It's one of those movies that makes me cry every time, even when it's not really sad.

Requests:

Yeah, at least scan over my profile before asking awkward little get-to-know-each-other questions.  Don't sweat winning me over with a first impression, I have a bad memory anyway, just don't be an idiot.

So far this hasn't been an issue but I may as well mention that I'm an impenetrable ice fortress and you'll never win me over so don't try.  My walls have already been plundered anyway so I doubt there's any room for you.

Language Exchange Requests:

I typically speak and type with peculiar expressions and phrasing, so English fluency is a major plus so we can understand each other easily.  However, I can accommodate easily.

So, if you don't mind me butchering your language, by all means, try and teach it to me, be it Russian, Spanish, Korean, Czech, Mongolian, Portuguese, or Canadian French.  I enjoy learning how to say anything in different ways, or even learning to say things I never knew how to express.

Interests, Hobbies, etc.:

I ultimately want to be an animation director, in the likes of Chuck Jones, Hayao Miyazaki, Richard Williams, Yoshifumi Kondō, John Kricfalusi, and Disney's Nine Old Men.  Except not John Kricfalusi because he's a stupid bastard.  I love animated movies of all styles and always try to learn new techniques and methods.

I also love music.  I'm a very poor musician myself, but I enjoy studying theory and composition.  In film, I like to explore unconventional approaches to invoking emotion through music, and in general studies I enjoy analyzing tonal harmony and instrumentation, although I find it refreshing to depart from the western tradition of harmonic music and explore rhythm.

Aside from my passions and goals, I like going for long walks, barefoot running, rainy days, and anything beautiful.  I enjoy watching pretty girls from a distance, reminiscing in dark, silent places, watching waves crash on the beach early in the morning, foggy fields, and hiking the Appalachian mountains.
I hope to be able to travel a bit in the future, particularly to Russia, Mongolia, China, Greece, Ireland, and Greenland, and hopefully move to Canada when I finish my education.

My favorite drink is a white Russian and I like very plain foods like crackers and sourdough bagels.

Favorite Music:

I listen to anything and everything, although usually my tastes are fairly obscure.

Some of my favorite artists, listed alphabetically, are:
The Allman Brothers; Cab Calloway; CocoRosie; Coheed and Cambria; George Crumb; Jonathan Coulton; Kimya Dawson; Dream Theater; Eminem; Kaizers Orchestra; Fujisawa Mamoru; Maria Mena; Róisín Marie Murphy; Muse; No Doubt; Pink Floyd; Portishead; Gioachino Antonio Rossini; Franz Schubert; The Scissor Sisters; Squirrel Nut Zippers; Tally Hall; Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky; The Who; Wax Museum Pandemonium; Katharine Whalen; John Williams; Leningrad Cowboys; Simon and Garfunkel; Hot Chip; Emerson, Lake, and Palmer; Franz Ferdinand; Psapp; Aram Ilyich Khachaturian; Travis; Yo-Yo Ma

This list is highly incomplete but should give you a general idea of what sort of garbage goes into my ears these days.

Favorite Movies:

First and foremost I like watching animated movies of all lengths, genres, and styles.  Dumbo and The Little Mermaid, Metropolis and Spirited Away, Veggie Tales and The Incredibles, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Wallace and Gromit, Titan AE and Anastasia, The Emperor's New Groove and Road to El Dorado, even 5 Centimeters Per Second and The Triplets of Belleville.  Even at a loss for cohesive  plot or overall relevance, I take a lot from the human effort put into the contour and shape of traditional animation, the molding and manipulation of stop-motion animation, and even in the creative rendering of some CGI movies.

Beyond animation I'm very picky about my tastes in movies.  Any genre will do, but the quality of the production must invariably be superb, or made up for with some truly outshining writing, direction, or sheer spirit.

In the ranks of truly superb, or at least most generally, I include such movies as The Big Lebowski, There Will be Blood, Ed Wood, Pulp Fiction, Twelve Angry Men, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Godfather, Cradle Will Rock, Little Miss Sunshine, and above all WALL·E (perhaps my favorite movie I've ever seen).

However, perhaps more important than those are the flawed works of genius, that with their overall deficiency shine as great films, including Eternal Sunshine for it's truly perfect direction giving a disturbed sense of unconsciousness, The Blues Brothers for excellent characterization, Death Proof for heavy use of dialogs to subtly drive its plot, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum for its convoluted plot and its styled writing, Being John Malkovich for its ludicrous take on the love triangle, Barton Fink for its visual puns and symbolic story, Speed Racer for absolutely ingenious narration and perhaps the greatest special effects ever produced, and Kill Bill for its humor and take on traditional archetypes.

Of course there's more than this, but this might just give you an idea of what I love.

Favorite Books:

I don't read very much, but one of my favorite authors is Issac Asimov.  In regards to his science fiction, it's fun and okay stuff, but his other writings, including Issac Asimov's Guide to the Bible, &c., are just my cup of tea.

Still, while I prefer the organized thought and intelligent, concise writing of Issac Asimov, I most relate to pretentious and immature authors, including Ambrose Bierce, Anthony Burgess, and Oscar Wilde.  Oscar Wilde in particular because I so guiltily agree with everything he says.

Aside from that, I'll read anything, but, again, I don't read very much.

Favorite Quotes:

"Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation."
~Oscar Wilde

And on a lighter note:

René Descartes went to a diner and and took a seat at the bar.  A waitress came to him and asked, "would you like a cup of coffee?"
"I think not," he said, and disappeared.

The Dalai Lama travelled to New York.   He went to a hot dog stand and said:  "Make me one with everything."

so i've heard.

i just so happen to be somewhat of a night owl. i prefer the dark and quiet, so i do my deep thinking at night. i have classes until 3:30 everyday, and then often sleep until the sun goes down. it's a rather boring routine, but there aren't exactly a myriad of options for entertainment here.

ahh, i'm enjoying this little banter more and more...
see, in the case of most penis-bearers, "anatomical reference" would alas, be replaced with "beating my meat," or "yanking my crank."

this, among other reasons, is why i find you so bloody intriguing.
you're very different.

ahh, see...in the same way that you have those impregnable walls built around yourself...i've got this invincible charm that just breaks down barriers like nobody's business. and if that doesn't work...well then i suppose i could just appeal to your testosterone driven side and send you dirty photos.

(facetiousness, i live for it.)

Hayao Miyazaki is incredible; I wish I had his past.
And I enjoyed 'stalking' your profile, haha. I don't meet too many interesting peeps on here, but when I do come across one, I must engage, react, and ignite...or at least say a hello. (:
