I've heard it from two separate groups of Japanese families that I taught for here in Istanbul. I assume it's true.

You know, they say "yabanci" in Japanese also, instead of "yabancı." It is kind of bad, like "gavur" or "kafır." :D They got it from Turkish. ;)
