About Me:

I am a student of law at Saint Louis University in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA and am specializing in criminal and international law.  Next summer I'm hoping to travel either to Spain or Germany (or maybe both) to study European Union business law.  Right now I work as an legal intern with the State of Missouri in a criminal defense office and work part-time as a security officer.  I also volunteer with several groups, including a local animal shelter, a foster child program, and with the auxiliary of the United States Air Force.
A couple of things up front:
1) I am in a very satisfying relationship and am not looking to change that.
2) I won't ask for your money and I expect that you won't ask for mine.
3) If you are coming into St. Louis and looking for a place to stay, I know several good hotels you can use.  And no, my house is not one of them.

Requests:

I'm looking for people wanting meaningful conversations.  I like talking about politics, current events, philosophy, history, and religion.  But since I'm also traveling abroad next summer, I'd like to also exchange e-mails with people in Spain, France, Germany, and Italy to learn about culture.  If you're from somewhere else, that's fine - I'd like to hear about your culture, too!

When I was younger, I took 8 years of French and 3 years of German.  It's been some time since then, but I would like to find someone with patience to help me practice these languages (and Spanish and Russian, too!)

Interests, Hobbies, etc.:

Reading, running, biking, rock climbing, hiking and camping, movies, meeting my friends at a local bar, catching some great baseball at Busch Stadium here in St. L.
Every now and then I like to sleep, too.

Favorite Music:

Coldplay, U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Linkin Park, Metallica (the old stuff)

But I also like Elvis (the early stuff) and Sinatra.

So a lot of different types.

Favorite Movies:

Too many to list!
But, I must say, I am a total nerd because I've liked the movie Top Gun since I was six.  Still got it on DVD.  And yes, I still watch it.

Favorite TV Shows:

Simpsons, Family Guy, King of the Hill, courtroom dramas (like Damages and Law and Order)

If you are a Simpon's fan, hopefully you'll appreciate some Lionel Hutz quotes:

Lionel Hutz: "Well, he's kind of had it in for me ever since I accidentally ran over his dog. Actually, replace "accidentally" with "repeatedly," and replace "dog" with "son." "
-------------------------------------------------
Judge: Mr. Hutz, are you aware you're not wearing any pants?
Lionel Hutz: Uh, your Honor, can I call for one of those bad trial thingys?
Judge: You mean a mistrial?
Lionel Hutz: Yeah ... that's why you're the judge, and I am the law ... talkin' ... guy.

Favorite Books:

The last book I read (that wasn't a law book) was "State of Denial," about the "thinking" (and I use the term VERY loosely) that went into the US's decision to invade Iraq and afterwards.  I'm setting up to read Hobbes's "Leviathan," and probably will read Dawkins's "The God Delusion" after that.

I stick mainly to historical, political, philosophical, or theological books.  The book that probably had the most impact on me was "Blue Like Jazz."

Favorite Quotes:

1) What do you call 5,000 dead lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?
A good start.

2) What is the difference between a catfish and a lawyer?
One is a slimy, bottom-dwelling scum sucker.  The other is a fish.

3)  Why won't sharks eat lawyers?
Professional courtesy.

Yep! That's a long post..but very interesting!!
I'm fine and you? Summer vacations always make me feel happy ;)
But I've been working a little, few days in June, July and then I'll be back to work in less than a month. I work for "SMEBA": it's a social securtity (medical cares) for student. I was working with some of my friends, so it's a very nice job, I can't complain!!
The french media does cover the US elections: we are very interested in knowing who will be the next american President...after Bush!! In France, Bill Clinton was (and stiil is) very popular! On contrary of George Bush...^_^
I think french people love Barak Obama (just like I do) and I hope he will be the next President. But my point of view is very limited about the international relations, especially between our two countries! To be honest, McCain really scares me: I feel that for him, you've just two choices when you're not american: to be pro or against the USA; moreover, he said the Irak War will continue...100 years if it was needed!! As a french little people (lol), I think the bond between France and the USA will be greater with Obama as President than McCain.
But that's right, I don't know anything about what they wanna do "inside" your country, so like I said, my point of view remains very limited!!
Do you have some vacations? That's my last ones this year, so I really try to enjoy them!! But I don't travel cuz I want to keep some money to study one year abroad. I wish I could speak your language fluently, so living one year in an english country seems to be a great idea!!
Have you ever think to study one year abroad?

So we have most of the time lectures= 7 different lessons, each lasts 3 hours a week; and then, for two classes, we have "TD" which last 1h30 and it's more class discussions= we have to do exercises, which are corrected there.
And what about the USA? I've heard the method is more "socratic" (=class discussions), is that right?
So, judge or politician? That's close enough over there, isn't it? American judges are elected (I do love reading Grisham's stories ;) ); in France, this sytem is absolutly not possible (separation of powers) but  you can be a judge after two years in a special school (ENM), I really disagree with this system: our judges have no really experience!!
And politician must be so great, but I think I've lost the hope that you can change the world as a politician. But it may be different in the USA!!! Are you Republicans or Democrate (may I ask this question?)?

Hey! Copyright Law is not the field students choose for money, it's more Family Law.
Here in France, it's difficult enough to be a prosecutor or a defense attorney: a lot of people for few places...
I have two more years to do (already done three) before I finish my studies, and then...we'll see, I haven't decided yet what I really want to do. Studying Law open so many doors!
And you? When will you be able to practice? Is it difficult to become a prosecutor/defense attorney?

Haha...glad you're having fun studying. Good luck for your test! :)

Oh, I'm not up to anything much at this moment. Went out for dinner with a couple of friends straight after work and I just got home. Came online to kill some time before going to bed.

Btw, I like your profile. Very cool. :)
