About Me:

Torah-loving Jew. Married to another Torah-loving Jew. Convert (of conviction, not accomodation) to Judaism. Immigrant to Israel from the United States. Eternally grateful to the United States of America for raising me with a sense of true democracy and social justice. Shekel-stretcher. Conservationist. Pragmatist. Independent feminist (VERY independent). Proud momma. Journeyman b.s. detector.
I work at a small local zoo, and I love animals.
My newest professional aspiration: Maggidah (Jewish lady preacher) (gonna have to train for it in my spare time, though, and not expect to actually make a LIVING at it! LOL...)
I try not to talk out of my rear end, but my opinions do overtake me sometimes.

Requests:

I am looking for respectful exchange of religious and cultural information, particularly (from interested inquirers) about Pentecostal Christianity, but also any other Christian denomination; and friendly relations and virtual religious/cultural exchanges with women in the Middle East and North Africa; occasional tutoring in Spanish (if I can ever find the time- but don't count on it!); notable recipes, from wherever in the world you are (can be your own creation, too); other stuff to shmooze (shoot the breeze) about, if initial contacts are successful and pleasant.
Women only, please; no offense, but if you are a man, I most likely will not respond.
Same goes for messages challenging Israel's legitimacy, integrity, etc. Those messages go directly to the trash, as I am VERY tired of them...
Thank you!

Language Exchange Requests:

English is my mother tounge, and I have some understanding of the rules of English grammar, so I can help with that. My Hebrew is intermediate level, but I would like to improve it. I took two years of Spanish in junior high and high school, but I remember very little; occasional help with that would be appreciated (but if you're looking for REGULAR exchanges in Spanish, don't hold your breath, because my time is limited and my Spanish is still just a hobby, sorry).
Again, women and/or pastors only, please.

Interests, Hobbies, etc.:

Religion; psychology; philosophy; history; current events; Israel
Stuff I like to do: reading; emailing; writing (various stuff);  learning (Torah; Hebrew; psychology; philosophy; etc.); wish I had the time and money to...: go hiking and camping, go swimming, go beach-combing, do the tourist thing here in Israel (been here several years now and STILL haven't done it)

Favorite Music:

ecclectic (may get more specific later); haven't listened to American radio in almost a decade, so most of my favorite tunes are from the 1990's (and even earlier!)- Billy Joel, Bruce Hornsby, Elton John (can you tell I like piano players?); Quincy Jones; Annie Lennox; cinema and theater soundtracks (Star Wars, Titanic, Batman, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon...); etc.

Favorite Movies:

The Long Kiss Goodnight; Unbreakable; Batman Begins; Batman: The Dark Knight; Analyze This; Analyze That; City Slickers; City Slickers 2: The Legend of Curly's Gold; When Harry Met Sally (can you tell I like Billy Crystal?); Good Will Hunting; The Dead Poets Society; Patch Adams; Agnes of God; A Stranger Among Us; The Abyss; anything Star Trek (except #1 (too darn long) and #5 (too many gratuitous horse shots)); the Indiana Jones trilogy; the Star Wars trilogy (that is, episodes 4-6); The Matrix Trilogy; Independence Day; Enemy of the State; the Lord of the Rings trilogy; Ghost; Flatliners; Windtalkers

Favorite TV Shows:

(when I can sneak in an hour...:) The Unit; NCIS; Babylon 5; Numbers (we don't own a television, so we get it all from the internet. I am all for freedom of information and digital entertainment...)

Favorite Books:

Bible; Siddur (Jewish prayer book); Pirkei Avot ("Ethics of the Fathers," which is a tractate in the Talmud); The Hunt For Red October; Rainbow Six; 1984; The Handmaid's Tale; The Postman

Favorite Quotes:

"Whoever sits in the refuge of the Most High, he will dwell in the shadow of the Almighty." (Ps. 91:1)

Buttercup: "We'll never survive..." Wesley: "Nonsense! You're only saying that because no one ever has." (from "The Princess Bride")
