About Me:
I hope to befriend interesting men and women with hobbies, opinions and interests they'd like to share. If you find we have a few things in common, let's chat! I enjoy discussing art, culture, travel, cinema, technology, social media and even a bit of philosophy. Work is often just a matter of necessity, so tell me what you do when your time is yours.
Here are a few of my favorite things:
Painters
Savador Dali:I love so much of Dali's work but here are my favorites:
Dormeuse Cheval Lion Invisibles (Invisible Sleeper, Horse, Lion) 1930
Dali devised the "Paranoiac Critical Interpretation" technique Using this method, Dali transforms the body of a reclining female into both a lion and a horse.
The Metamorphosis of Narcissus
This painting is of the mythical Greek figure Narcissus who was unable to love anything other than his own reflection (on the left). In the mirroring image on the right, you see the Narcissus flower emerging from the fractured egg held by the hand. In the background we see a statue of Narcissus contemplating his own beauty and a mirroring image hand is echoed in the gap of the mountains.
Raphaelesque Head Exploding
This painting incorporates the dome of the Pantheon-located in Rome. See a similar light beaming through the head and the fragmented, exploding yet serene "Raphaelesque" face of the Madonna.
Photographer
Jerry Uelsmann (surreal photographer): So much of his work is titled "untitled". Soon I will post in the NOTES section the creative and arduous manner in which these images were created, as I understand it.
Sculptures
The sculptural and architectural monuments of
The Staglieno Cemetery, Genoa, Italy. Oh my, simply breathtaking.
The Staglieno Angel, by sculptor Giulio Monteverde is stunning. I can't help but be moved every time I see her.
Travel
I've visited
Paris, Berlin, Dresden, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Luxembourg, Florence, Rome and Heidelberg. Within the States, I've only been outside California to visit NYC and BOS.
Where next
Genoa Italy, Spain and many places within the UK. Oh yes, and Hawaii here at home.
Technology
I'm a devout Mac user. Despite the "Apple tax" I doubt I will ever purchase another pc. I also keep abreast of the trends in mobile technology and social media.
Random Tech video that I love
The PODCASTS, NETCASTS UNIVERSE
Some of my favorite podcasts on Itunes are: Filmspotting, Das Literatur Cafe, Grammar Girl and Open University. Did you know Yale University has free, free, free literature courses on ITunes? Now you do.
Social Scene
Aside from church, I belong to a German language club, a writers' group and a movie lovers' club. Woot! Woot!
I also enjoy music, writing, reading, and a bit of science and philosophy. I'm curious about everything. If you see that we share similar interests, please say Hello!
As you read this, I'm mustering the courage to write messages in German or Spanish. If you are patient and fluent, I hope we will chat. I'm happy to help with English.
