About Me:

Quiet, but not shy.

Open-minded and accepting, but not a doormat.

Honest, but not cruel.

Requests:

Correspondence and friendship only.  I am happily married, with four children and five grandchildren, and am not looking for anything beyond that.  If you are looking for your soulmate, you will need to look elsewhere.  I believe in friendships, but true friendships are formed over time; if we find one here, good!  If not, no harm - no foul.  We can't be "best friends forever" with everyone.

I enjoy intelligent conversation about almost anything, but also like to talk about the ups and downs of everyday life.  I accept others just as they are, regardless of race, religion, or age; if you can't do this, I can almost guarantee we will not get along.

Requests for money will be ignored, of course.  If you are looking for an online affair, forget it.

Interests, Hobbies, etc.:

Correspondence, Reading, History, Languages, Needlework (Crochet, Knitting, Counted Cross-stitch), Learning about other cultures, people, places, and times

Two of the people I would most like to meet in Heaven:
Raoul Wallenberg and Father Damien de Veuster

Favorite Music:

Depends on my mood at the time; almost anything, including bluegrass, classical, folk, pop, techno, world music.  Everything from Nightwish to Nanci Griffith, Peter Paul and Mary to Mana, K3 to Loituma, Uillean pipes to Gregorian Chant, Marie Digby to Юлия Савичева

Favorite Movies:

"Feel good" movies - those that leave me with a feeling of hope and peace, stories in which there is personal growth of the characters, or examples of courage and integrity.

Favorite TV Shows:

Jeopardy

I  would rather leave the television off and read a book.

Favorite Books:

I am rarely without a book close at hand.  Authors, thinkers, and writers I appreciate: Adams, Ba'al Shem Tov, Emerson, Kierkegaard, Maimonides, Marquez, Paolini, Pastis, Rowling, Smiley, Thoreau, Tolkien, Undset and a bunch of others.  Last, but not least - Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Paul.

Favorite Quotes:

Micah 6:8

"... man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much - the wheel, New York, wars and so on - whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man - for precisely the same reasons."
                                                   - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

“Never allow someone to be your priority while you remain merely their option.”
