Thanks, and just to reiterate, I certainly would not want to live during WW2!! Since antiquity, unless you were in that top slice of the social structure, you were pretty much nobody. As we've moved through time, that slice has got larger and larger. I think it's reasonable to say that the current time is probably the fairest and least segregated, as challenging as it seems sometimes.

I know what you mean about the 18th century aesthetic though, it was a wonderful time.

What's my favourite time period? Goodness me, how random are you? Has your Ritalin worn off? ;) Actually, you can't even say that these days, can you? What with the overenthusiasm of the pharmaceutical companies trying to push their magic happy candy upon your generation in America.

I don't even know if you were actually asking the question for real, or just being random, but I'll say the Second World War in terms of the most significant historic event ever, the echoes of which are still heard around the world, affecting everything from politics and technology to economic policy and culture. The blight and blessing of modernity, a truly appalling time that I would certainly not wish to live through. The manner in which Germany was still struggling financially and emotionally after WWI, the ludicrous treaty of Versailles merely acting as a suppression device for subversive thinking, some might say that the conflict was inevitable. One cannot expect the balance of power to shift so quickly through words scribed on tattered papers; when injustice is seen to occur, and citizens sense loss and hunger for the glory of yesteryear, chaos ensues rapidly. Hitler was in a prime position to channel that energy for his political and personal ideals, legitimately elected and ready to "save" his people.

It truly was an incredible time, these four giant personalities, Churchill, Roosevelt, Hitler and Stalin, pulling the world hither and tither, making sacrifices in the name of victory and future expansion, sending young men and women to their deaths for the supposed greater good. White hot metal burning the flesh and dreams from our bones. From the earliest campaigns, to Omaha, Dunkirk and the horrors of the deathcamps... to Pearl Harbour and Dresden, hushing the scene for two nuclear stars to burn so bright over Japan... and yet this was the darkest chapter in the chronicles of human life.

Well, you *did* ask...

I do not know who are you are or why you decided to visit our planet, but as a suddenly self-appointed leader of the human race, I welcome you wholeheartedly. Please feel free to sample our menfolk and bestow upon us any gifts to accelerate our evolution, e.g. time machines, particle colliders, cure for all diseases, a toasted sandwich. Actually, like yeah, I'd be happy with the last one.

You appeared in "random profiles" this morning, and having clicked on you (well not YOU, but you know what I mean), I had a lovely laugh at your hilarious photos, no offence. If that really is your beard, then I would check your birth certificate and make sure you were not conceived on 25th December. ;)

Take care you hilarious camel lover.
