Dating scene 1: among a group of my age
Woman: how old are you?
Me: 35.
Woman: really? (incredulous) but you look no more than 25!
Me: (a lil sheepish) yeah i know.... looking young may not always be an advantage.........

After a momentary silence
Me: and how old are you?
Woman: 38.
Me: really?! you don't look half young!
Woman: thank you! (started walking away)
Me: But I'm really 35! (shouting to myself afterwards)

Dating scene 2: in the middle of a conversation
Woman: oh, so how old are you?
Me: 35.
Woman: really? but you look like 20!
Me: yeah? but i'm 35.
Woman: (dejected) oh, and i'm only 18. (started walking away)
Me: (murmuring to myself) what do I do now.......

Update: This is a conversation I had with my father the other day.

Me: So can one really love another unconditionally no matter what happens?
Old man: Yes, it's called true love.
Me: True love? C'mon, you don't really believe that, do you? (an old man like you....) Does it really exist?
Old man: Yes! (looking absolutely certain)
Me: So is there just one true love in one's life time?
Old man: No. It can happen more than once, depending on the person. Some people can have it only once, others many times over. (pause) Are you writing something about this?
Me: No. (hesiate) So.... (sounding incredulous) how often does it happen?
Old man: More often than people think (smile).
Me: Okay...............(walking out of the room, pondering)

So how many of us are out there that can claim the love they are in or the love they have now is true love? Comments, anyone?

PS: Wow, I thought I was romantic and idealistic. But now after knowing what my dad thinks...... Guess it's in the family genes, huh?! Or maybe there are really more people who are like my dad out there and I'm just too much of a cynic?
