About Me:

I'm a writer and editor by profession. I love travelling and experiencing new places and cultures and have lived in various parts of India and even for a while, in Kathmandu, Nepal. I enjoy trekking and try and head for the hills as often as I can.

Requests:

I would like to know more about people from all across the world and am also looking for a friend who will help me with Italian, a language I have been studying for about two years or so. But mostly, I'm just a very curious person:)

Guys, please do NOT send inane messages or wall posts, it's really a waste of time for both of us. I'm only interested in getting to know people who share my interests, so please read my profile before you message me. And no, being human, sharing the same language, city or country  does not necessarily mean we have a lot in common! I mean that, particularly if you live in Delhi, Chandigarh, Bangalore, Chennai, Calcutta, Pune or Bangalore and are using this site solely to hit on women.

Language Exchange Requests:

Anyone out there who knows Italian - I need help! I'm fluent in English and Bangla, so I could help with those.

Interests, Hobbies, etc.:

I enjoy thinking, writing, reading (translations, fiction, graphic novels, essays, biographies, history, culture, politics, mythology, anthropology, poetry and India), watching films, travelling and trekking. I also love philosophy, art, fashion, craft, chatting with friends, listening to music (mostly Indian Classical), Japanese food, spending time with my dogs, good design, relaxing, a great massage, and an occasional glass of red wine:)

Favorite Music:

Indian and Western Classical, especially Carnatic. Also, jazz and rock n' roll, especially the Rolling Stones.

Favorite Movies:

There are too many to put down. One of my favourite directors is Eric Rohmer. There's not a single Rohmer film that I haven't enjoyed though some, of course, are better than others. I also like Claude Chabrol, Jacques Rivette, Jean Luc Godard, Robert Bresson, Louis Malle, Agnes Varda, Billy Wilder, Woody Allen, David Lynch, Wes Andersen, Satyajit Ray, Victor Erice, the Dardenne brothers, the Coen brothers, Maurice Pialat, Mohsen Makhmalbaf, Abbas Kiarostami, Pedro Almodovar, Catherine Breillat, Mario Martone and occasionally, Werner Herzog. I watch a lot of films!

Favorite TV Shows:

I don't really watch TV though I enjoyed The Simpsons, The Addams Family - I think we might be related:) - and The Sopranos. But usually, I prefer watching documentaries on travel, food and culture.

Favorite Books:

Again, too many to list. Lately, I've been enjoying the books of Roberto Calasso, Calvino, Nabokov, Ian McEwan and J.M. Coetzee, short stories by Saadat Hasan Manto and Ismat Chughtai, the essays of Montaigne and the poetry of Eugenio Montale, Francis Ponge and Fernando Pessoa. Nabokov is a long-time favourite. Usually, I prefer European writers.

Favorite Quotes:

'I don't want to achieve immortality through my work... I want to achieve it through not dying'. - Woody Allen

'So many books, so little time'. -  Frank Zappa

'Resist much. Obey little'. -  Walt Whitman

'I do not know which to prefer,
The beauty of inflections
Or the beauty of innuendos
The blackbird whistling
Or just after'.  -  Wallace Stevens

'I am sentimental...I could dissect a koala but not its baby. I like the words damozel, eglantine, elegant...' (Ada in Ada, or Ardor by Vladimir Nabokov)
