About Me:
Hello everybody
My name is Lamis, a 21 years old, Christian Catholic, student in Damascus university, studying business administration.
I'm single, friendly, open-mindedand an honest girl, I hate lying, cheating people, and hope to meet people from all over the world as to learn about different cultures and places.
I like life and I am happy to be alive and I think that nobody would choose to live without friends even if he had all the other good things of life.
Please keep in mind that I'm not looking for any kind of bad or sexual relationships, I'm just looking for true friends, pen pals.
and I call eveybody in the cyberspace to remember that there is one only happiness in life: to love and be loved.
In the last few monthes I have received over fifty message ask me about chritianity in syria.
In short : Contrary to general thought, Christianity has quite a strong presence in Syria. Ever since its early years.
There are several Christian communities, who on a whole constitute approx. 8% of the Syrian population. Christianity in Syria is divided into three parts. Catholic Churches, Orthodox Churches, and the Protestants. Many Christians live in the villages of Maaloula, Seidnaya, Safita, and Marmarita. Aleppo, where approximately 10% of the population is Christian, has a large number of Armenians.
Christianity in Syria is strongly recognized and National holidays include Christmas, New Years day, and Easter. The Armenian Orthodox Church celebrates Christmas on the 6th of January. As for Easter it is celebrated on two different dates, the customary Western date (celebrated by the Catholic Churches, Protestants and Armenian Orthodox), the other date is celebrated by the Syrian and Greek Orthodox.
There are 368,000 Catholics in Syria, approximately 2% of the total population.
