Thank you for your reply!
May I first assume that you answered "yes" to my first question?
The next question is not asked in order to attack the Islam, it is asked out of curiosity. The bible has many contradictions as well, in the country where I'm from (the Netherlands) the majority of the Christians don't believe that every single word from the bible is the divine truth. This is also their way to cope with the contradictions in the bible.
However if in your opinion every word in the Quran is true how do you deal with some of the contradictions? An example of a contradiction is: "Does Allah forgive shirk?" The more detailed argument can be found at: http://www.answering-islam.org/Quran/Contra/qi005.html
So how to deal with these contradiction when according every word is supposed to be true? |
Tea and Cookies,
I think you make a very important point. Where I live, in the American South, most Christians are ultra conservative fundamentalists and do believe every word in the Bible is the perfect Word of God. But, as you said, especially in Europe and more liberal parts of the US, there are more moderate, better educated Christians who recognize the contradictions in the Bible and interpret it metaphorically rather than literally.
Unfortunately, the same tendency for a non-literal interpretation of the Qu'ran seems to not exist in Islam. Every Muslim I have ever talked to, including the less fanatical ones, insist that every word in the Qu'ran is the perfect Word of Allah. I think this is partly why so much of the Islamic world has had difficulty coping with modernity and there is such an inclination towards extremism and backwardness.
