Hi friends,

Do you believe that your thoughts have an influence on your life, your physical world? Or thoughts are just thoughts without any consequences?

Sincerely,

This is a very complex question. People of such ideas as 'The Secret' and the like enjoy 'believing' that your thoughts have a significant impact on your life. That positive thinking attracts positive outcomes. Now in my opinion, if you have a positive outlook on life you get positive outcomes in life simply because you are looking at everything with a positive viewpoint. The same goes with a negative outlook. I do think your thoughts effect your world emotionally and physically but not because of any 'mystical force' or 'universal energy.'

Let's look at a job interview for example, if you walk into the interview already under the impression that you will not get the job then your attitude and your dialogue will reflect that. You will have a negative attitude and it will come across in your body language, your responses to questions, and anything else you do. Hence, the interviewer will sense this and have second thoughts about hiring you. Now I'm not saying that if you go into an interview with a positive viewpoint you will for sure get the job, but it definitely won't hurt your chances, whereas going with a negative attitude will.

Now it's also obvious that a persons thoughts have an impact on their life as can be seen with depression. People who think about themselves in the extremely negative are more likely to commit suicide, then someone who enjoys their life to the fullest and looks at everything in a positive way.

I certainly think every situation has something positive that can be taken from it and if you look at everything in a positive way you will enjoy life to a higher extent. Razz

To be honest it really depends, again, on the context of your question. what kind of thoughts are you talking about exactly? If you were to say thoughts in general, then the dumbed down version would be: "Well duh". "What am I going to wear today?" "A red sweater" "What am I going to do today?" "Go watch a movie."

If you're talking about the difference between impulse-type thoughts or rational-type thoughts, then that would also answer your question fairly simply. There are many different types of theories out there for this question in particular; for example, one would be Plato, who believed there were three parts of the soul: reason, spirit and desire (all of which have a goal). Reason, being for example, the "rational thoughts", the thoughts that desire most to acquire knowledge. Spirit, with the main desire for honour, power and the like. And finally desire, which seeks to sate the desire of hunger and lust.

If you're talking about what indiefilmman was talking about above however, then as he/she said, there is a bit of ambiguity as to whether or not thoughts influence your daily life. In my belief, thoughts or emotions rather, have quite an impact on the outcome of your life. If you're having a bad day, and it keeps getting worse then typically your mood worsens, which makes your day worse off if you keep thinking bitterly of what may or may not happen.

What you are today is what you have been thinking all these years.

Ofcourse they have effect.

THere is no such thing as coincidence.Every thing happens for a reason.

One day i was sick so i can't drink cold water and sadly they give only cold water in college canteen.so i was thinking that this machine should not work today ! and guess what that water-cooler sto[[edwasn't working on that day.

this is just a instance.

Your example of the drinking fountain is obviously a coincidence and a pretty silly one at that. The fountain wasn't working because it needed to be repaired, not because you were sick. Did all the other students have to go without water that day because the fountain was magically altering itself to suit your condition?!? Geez, this irrational type of "thinking" really drives me crazy.Ñòðàäàíèå :(

I have read many books about this subject and joined meetings as well, now ı can say that negative or positive thoughts do effect our lives in a way.the events we're experiencing today is the reason of what we belıeved in the past.the fırst step when changıng your luck to positive is changing negatıve belıefs to positive, for example;it's hard to earn plenty of money.if thıs ıs your negative belief then it'll really be hard for you to earn plenty of money unless you change your belıef.also believing that 'people are dishonest' you'll generally meet dishonest ones..

The American author Loise Hay has many book on this subject for anyone interested.you can also visit her web-site..ıt's in our hands, whether we take it or not..

Thank you JWC, that was exactly the point I was trying to make. It's funny how these magical thinkers always have the "magic" operating in their favor even when it is to the deteriment of other people.

Wink

I believe in the power of positive thinking but this example is just ridiculous.
I person getting it their way while 100's of others probably want the opposite.
(Mind you, sleepingsaint forgot to tell us he pulled out the power plug from the wall) Idea

If I think positive about getting a convenient parking spot I usually get it.
If someone else gets it then they probably probably needed it me more than me (Yep, I see the old fart struggling to get outa the car) and I can cope with the distance (Wow, look what I found doing the walk!!!!)
This, to me, is positive thinking - not at the cost of others.

Yes they do.
If I think negative thoughts of every situation then it would be a case of "why bother".... I would never take risks..... try anything new.... think everybody would laugh at me when I post on TFS..... think the Moderators hate me ...... What?Oh, they do!!!!

With positive thoughts I am confident to try new things, take risks, and post my thoughts on subjects... knowing that whatever the result is I will survive and learn something from the experience. And say to the moderators ........
Îãúçâàíå <img src=" border="0" /> ÀÕÕÑÅÕÀÕÕÜÜÀÅÕüÀ (chuckle)

Oh yes, a positive attitude does one other thing...... it attracts positive people.

That's not just science...... it logic.
