I think it is so much difficult to know how we are thinking about for forigners.
Yes, we sometimes just smiling and say "yes" or just nod to the ohers when we are discussing with the other person.
Cuz in japan, we don't prefer outspoken person and always tell someone indirectly if we cannot agree with them or say "No".
For example, if we say "Let's have some cofee sometime" to someone, it is no meaning just like greeting. But someone who is comming from overseas, they confuse like"when" or "where" or some....
Actually, I don't like "tatemae". Cuz it will be taken a bit time to understand what people thinking about when i talk with them...
Thanks for just stating the obvious like that. It's difficult to know what japanese people are thinking about anything, not just "non-Japanese people"
