I write a lot of Perl also, using a lot of modern stuff like Moose or Catalyst, it's very interesting.

Hagbard_Celine, what kind of Perl do you write ? web apps ? automation scripts ?

I am a server guy, so mostly scripts to make administration more effective (admins, the most lazy people in IT...lol).
I am also interested in web apps, but for that I use Python (web2py to be exact), a friend of mine is a real Python wiz and so I got into it a little...but just for private fun projects. I like Python a lot so far, especially because it forces you to write clean code.

I came to programming (of a sort, anyway) via web design, so naturally I'm a little more in tune with web scripting languages such as PHP and Ruby which lack the scope and malleability of C++. Free time is reserved for other languages / frameworks - Processing is my personal flavour of the month.

That reminds me, I got into Django for a bit. It was purely experimental but once I had my development environment setup, it wasn't bad at all :)

Right, from what I have heard Django is really nice, a buddy of mine can't stop to enthuse about Django on nginx ("soooo lighweight and fast!") whenever I talk to him..^^

I use Catalyst+Starman+DBIx::Class+nginx , it's really fast, made some benchmarks with ab , and got 750requests/second

Nice! :

Call me old fashioned, but I am an Apache guy....my focus is on security, and with the proper config and some nice modules nothing beats Apache security (of course only with fgci/fastcgi, NOT with mod_php).
I usually don't run benchmarks, because with 50+ websites on the server it's pretty pointless to test single scripts. but with a proper amount of RAM and Worker MPM Apache can be faster than most people might think (ok, it of course also depends on the PHP config and a lot on the MySQL/PostgreSQL config).
