Thought Saint Peter was the resident bouncer on the door? Saint Peter in a leather jacket, mirror shades, and a look that makes you feel about - - tall. I'd buy that for a dollar. But then you can scribble my knowledge of scripture on the back of a damp beer mat. Still, figure if anyone can have a word with a man who knows a man who knows a saint it's got to be them Catholic boys.

Where you did read about the limbo thing please? Going to make reading Dante a bit....odd.

I was talking about Robot Santa... Razz

As for Limbo, it was in respect to the unbaptised babies but still quite a back-pedal.

No, I believe thee "man" is correct, at least when it comes to Christianity. I think they believe that Jesus will be the final arbiter of their rights and wrongs, seeing how he has walked a mile and all, he would be the natural choice.

seems no option about making up their own minds...This is why I start disliking the religious extremists telling us what to do stronger each day...

But, my dear friend... what is wrong with the Catholic church encouraging people to stand up for their beliefs? (I'm not Catholic) There is nothing wrong with being homosexual... However the Bible does have some clear guidelines on sexuality. And, I believe the Bible is clear from Genesis and from Jesus' teaching that marriage is between a man a woman. So... why can't people be tolerant of others beliefs? If the Catholic church believes something is wrong, why can't they teach it?

They can and they should. In fact, the faster the Catholic church makes itself the most vile organization on Earth, the faster it's crucified, resurrected, and rises to heaven, promising to return but in reality we'll have 2000 years of reprieve at the minimum.

Cool Yup; everyone is free to express their views. I do have some problem with them imposing their views on others in some cases, like marriage which is not a Catholic or Christian or even a religious institution, though to many it also has that dimension.

Honestly, though, to me it seems that this is Vatican's plan. It's not unproblematic to make the argument that the Catholic church is a force for good.

Well... I'm sure the Catholic church does view marriage as a religious institution. Jesus talked about marriage between a man and a woman, and referred to the first marriage between Adam and Eve. So, yes...marriage is a religious institution within Christianity and many other religions.

My view is that it's a legal institution which can have a religious dimension. Catholicism does not have a monopoly on marriage, nor does any particular Christian sect or any other religion. Marriage is not a religious institution; a religious authority is not needed to make marriage official, but a civil authority is.

I think this is a good move on the Catholic church's part. They play the role of an intolerant, old-world minded jackass who will stand there and give you reasons to hate them until you hate them.

Having a belief is one thing but trying to make all of the people (most of whom were simply born into the religion) sign a petition that might effect other people's lives based on that belief is childish and horrific. If the Catholic church wants to have a role in politics then have them give up their tax exempt status and have them reorganize themselves as a political party. At least that way the church would die off sooner.
