I remember when I was a teenager (16 or so), I worked at a grocery bagging people's groceries. At my store we were allowed to accept tips, and this was actually a significant portion of our income. I remember several times where I would be handed a wad of single dollars, and after unfolding them I'd find some kind of slip of paper with a religious message on it. This wasn't like Jehovah's Witness stuff. Just normal people trying to slip me Christian business cards or something. I was never directly offended; I would just toss it in the trash. But I always wondered if this was an appropriate way to spread the message. I feel that everyone has the right to voice their own opinion, but I find it morally wrong to do it through what in my opinion is deceit. I don't go around slipping my beliefs written down into people's hands because I understand that they are my own opinions, and I am not in the game of insulting someone else who I haven't even talked to because they also have their own opinions. And I know many people would throw a fit if I were writing down my worldview on paper because it's Atheistic. That's really besides the point though. I just think that doing this is wrong. If people wanted to hear your message, they would ask you for it. What do you think?

I don't get many tips at my work, and i have never gotten anything religious but one of my co-corkers got a religious pamphlet for a tip. We have a pin board that the public can put stuff on and we get religious stuff on that too but we always have to take it down.

I think a little talking about your religion is ok but shoving at people is not ok. You should really respect others beliefs and you might offend someone if you are just shoving your religious at them.

In their eyes the ends justify the means, seeming deceitful never enters into the mindset. Plus, a lot of the "sneaky" methods of spreading the word are not considered sneaky because they feel that the word of the lord reveals itself whenever you least suspect it. At least that's the mindset as I understood it when I was going along with it as a kid.

You ever fly on one of those airlines with the Christian sandwiches? You nom away at a ham sandwich and get a bible verse at the bottom. I've always wondered what poor soul actually found Jesus through a ham sandwich.

If you guys think this religion types are sneaky, you guys don't want to meet the Scientologist. These guys recruit Lower income families or people with immigration status and have them pay a nominal fee. They hold them with promises of a better future and success of a better life. They also had place were they kept underage kids and had them do labor work for penny's and the problem is when people try to leave they hit them with debt.

Sounds a lot like most other "mainstream" religions to me.

Amazing. Laughing I don't think I have ever run into anything like that, I would be mildly annoyed if I did.

For those of you who want to know what kind of thing I got, I was able to remember one specific note I received because I remember at the time it pissed me off so much because of how offensive it was to me and how it could be to others too. Here it is:
http://www.shop.onemilliontracts.com/Are-You-A-Good-American-100ct-pckg-2-x-3-1-2-051.htm

The long message was what was printed on the back of the card. This was what was slipped to me folded in a few one dollar bills.

What is NOT cool is going to a nice restaurant and instead of tipping the people hand them religious dollars (basically these religious pamphlets)

Personally I don't know ANYONE who has ever converted because of what some random piece of paper says. To me it seems like a waste of trees, I think if people want to be religious they would learn best by example. For me I met a Muslim man who seemed like he understood and had peace in this life, that intrigued many questions for me... not someone shoving a Qur'an down my throat.

Then again in some faiths (not mine) part of their religion is to "spread it" but they do a horrible job by printing out these little flyers... religion is just one of those things, unless you ask you don't need to bring up. Many just don't understand that.
