I'm completely lost in a specific section of my book and finals are coming up soon. I've been trying to figure it out, but my book is just not explaining it well, so maybe you will have a better way of explaining it.

So the overall thing is "possessive adjectives".

Just really everything about it I don't understand. What is used for neuter, masculine, feminine, and plural forms. You don't have to be super specific, maybe just a quick overview that will help me look back at my book and figure something out.

Maybe examples in sentences and then translated into english, so I could make a connection.

Really any help would be great, just throw our your bit of information and I will be happy.

Thank you very much!

Sry, I don't get your question. What exactly do you not understand?

Poss. adj.:

sg.: mein, dein, sein/ihr/sein
pl.: unser, euer, ihr.

Formen der Possessivpronomen. (forms of possesiv pronouns )

Die Form des Possessivpronomens richtet sich nach der Person, auf die es sich bezieht, der so genannten Bezugsperson. Die Bezugsperson kann auftreten als: (the form of the possesiv pronoun depends on the person it is related to. That can be : )

ein Personalpronomen: (personal pronoun )

der Sprecher = ich = Possessivpronomen = mein ( the speaker = me = possesiv pronoun = mine )
der Angesprochene = du = Possessivpronomen = dein ( the involved = you = possesiv pronoun = your )

ein Nomen: (nouns)

maskulin = der Mann / der Tisch / der Hund = er = Possessivpronomen = sein
maskuline in german = the man / the table / the dog = he = possesiv pronoun = his

feminin = die Frau / die Lampe / die Katze = sie = Possessivpronomen = ihr
feminine in german = the women / the lamp / the cat = she = possesiv pronoun = her

neutral = das Kind / das Bett / das Pferd = es = Possessivpronomen = sein
neutral in german = the kid / the bed / the horse = it = possesiv pronoun = its

Possesive Pronouns :

my = mein
your = dein
his/her/its = sein/ihr/sein
our = unser
your = euer/Ihr
their = ihr

Das ist mein Vater und das ist deine Mutter. That is my father and that is your mother.

1 pers. Sing. Maskuline (Feminine) in german = mein(e)
2 pers. Sing. Maskuline (Feminine) in german = dein(e)

here in this case = masculine = der Vater ( the Father ) = mein
here in this case = feminine = die Mutter ( the mother ) = deine

In der 3. Person Singular kann die Bezugsperson, auf die sich das Possessivpronomen bezieht, ein Personalpronomen, ein Name oder ein Nomen bzw. eine Sache sein. ( In the 3rd. person sing. can the related person for the possesive pronoun be : a personal pronoun, a name, an noun or an object.)

3. Person Singular maskulin

er = Sein Name ist Jupp. (he = his name ... )
Theodor = Sein Sohn studiert in Heidelberg. (Theodor, name of son = His Son ...)
der Hund = Wo ist sein Knochen? ( the dog = his bone ..)

3. Person Singular feminin

sie = Weißt du, wo ihr Armband ist?
Sabine = Ihr Armband liegt auf dem Tisch.
die Tasche = Ist ihr Griff kaputt?

3. Person Singular neutral

es = Weißt du, wo sein Schnuller ist?
das Kind = Wo ist sein Ball?
das Buch = Sein Titel klingt interessant.

Possessivpronomen als Nomenvertreter. (possesive pronoun as noun )

Ein Possessivpronomen kann stellvertretend für ein Nomen gebraucht werden ( a possesive pronoun can be used as surrogate for an noun ):

Ist das dein Auto? - Ja, das ist meins. (Is this your car ? Yes, this is mine.)
Ist das Karstens Bleistift? - Nein, das ist nicht seiner. (Karstens Bleistif = sein Bleistift = seiner
Is this karstens pencil ? No, this isn't his. )
Ist das die Tasche von Katrin? - Nein, das ist nicht ihre. (die Tasche von Karin = ihre Tasche = ihre
Is this karins bag ? No, thats not hers.)

Steht das Possessivpronomen anstelle eines Nomens muss es dekliniert werden. Die Deklination zeigt Kasus, Genus und Numerus an. ( If the peronal pronoun is used for an Noun it must be declined. The declination shows Kasus ( case ), Genus ( gender ) an Numerus ( number ).

Kasus Maskulinum Femininum Neutrum Plural

Nominativ meiner meine meins meine
Akkusativ meinen meine meins meine
Dativ meinem meiner meinem meinen
Genitiv meines meiner meines meiner

Die Deklination gilt für alle Possessivpronomen ( declaration for all possesive pronouns ) :

Nominativ maskulin: meiner, deiner, seiner, ihrer, unserer, eu(e)rer, Ihrer
Nominativ feminin / Plural: meine, deine, seine, ihre, unsere, eu(e)re, Ihre
Nominativ neutral: meins, deins, seins, ihr(e)s, unser(e)s, eu(e)rs, Ihr(e)s

Beispiele ( exampels ):

Lehrer: "Wessen Tasche ist das? Mark, ist das deine?" ( Teacher : Whose bag is that ? Mark is that yours ? )
Mark: "Nein, meine steht hier unter dem Tisch." ( Mark : No, mine is standing under the table )

Mark = Angesprochener = Bezugswort = 2. Person Singular du = Possessiv dein
( Mark = involved person = antecedent = 2. person Sing. = possesiv dein )
Tasche = Nomen der Deklination = feminin = Nominativ = Endung -e
( Tasche = Noun of declaration = feminine = Nominativ = ending -e )
Mark = Sprecher = Bezugswort = 1. Person Singular ich = Possessiv mein
(Mark = speaker = antecedent = 1. person sing. ich = possesiv mein )
Tasche = Nomen der Deklination = feminin = Nominativ = Endung -e

"Mein Auto ist bis morgen in der Werkstatt. Könntest du mir heute Abend deins leihen?" (My car is .... Could i rent yours ... )

Sprecher = Bezugswort = ich = Possessiv mein + Nomen = Possessivartikel
(speaker = antecedent = ich = possesiv mein + noun = possesiv article)
Angesprochener = Bezugswort = 2. Person Singular du = Possessiv dein
(perosn who speaker talks to = antecedent = 2. pers. sing. du = possesiv dein )
Auto = Nomen der Deklination = neutral = Akkusativ = Endung -s
(car = noun of declartion = neutral = akkusativ = ending -s)

Ute: "Hast du meinen Füller gesehen?"
Otto: "Das hier ist meiner. Deinen habe ich nicht gesehen."
Sprecher = Ute = Bezugswort = ich = Possessiv = mein + Nomen = Possessivartikel
Sprecher = Otto = Bezugswort = ich = Possessiv = mein
Füller = Nomen der Deklination = maskulin = Nominativ = Endung -er
Angesprochener = Ute = Bezugswort = 2. Person Singular du = Possessiv dein
Füller = Nomen der Deklination = maskulin = Akkusativ = Endung -en

1st step
Look for the genus of the noun
2nd step
decide whether the noun is singular or plural
3rd step
put the possesive adjective IN FRONT of the noun resp. nouns

EXAMPLES:

Männlich (male)
(sgl.) Mein Vater
(pl.) Meine Freunde

Weiblich (female)
(sg.) Meine Mutter
(pl.) Meine Freundinnen

Sächlich (neuter)
(sg.) Mein Pferd
(pl.) Meine Häuser

All these examples are refering to the first person singular (Ich)

If you want to complicate it, you can play the same game with the second person singular:
Du:
Then you would say

Dein Vater
Deine Freunde

deine Mutter
deine Freundinnen

Dein Pferd
Deine Häuser

----
For third person singular, you have to decide what gender this third person singular is
if it is male you say

Sein Vater
Seine Freunde

Seine Mutter
Seine Freundinnen

Sein Pferd
Seine Häuser

If this third person singular is female, you say

ihr Vater
ihre Freunde

ihre Mutter
ihre Freundinnen

ihr Pferd
ihre Häuser

If the people who describe the things are a multitude, they will refer to themselves as we

so they will say

our
your
their
i.e.
unser Vater
unsere Freunde

Euere Mutter
Euere Freundinnen

Euer Pferd
Euere Häuser

ihr Vater - their father
ihre Freunde - their friend

ihre Mutter - their mother
ihre Freundinnen - their (female) friends

ihr Pferd - their horse
ihr Haus - their house
