This year I studied Tomas Tranströmer and Björn Larsson, they're Swedish and they're both pretty good.

Novels: Linn Ullmann, Per Petterson
Danish: Lars Saabye Christensen, Morten Ramsland
Icelandic: Arnaldur Indridason, Kristof Magnusson

What about Finland? Like Arto Paasilinna?
Only names I know from Norway are Per Petterson, Ingvar Ambjornsen and Tarjei Vesaas.

Sweden: Henning Mankell (I'm sure you've heard about him before) ; May Sjöwall/Per Wahlhöö - a couple who wrote crime bestsellers together in the 60s and 70s

Norway: Matias Faldbakken, young artist and writer; wrote an extremely unconventional trilogy
