From my part I've found this book amazing. I find it's a brilliant picture of men's sins and it's kind of philosophic, so that's why many people find it boring I guess ...

To the OP: you should read it. Oscar Wilde has his own "dandy" style of toying with ideas, laughing with style at the human vices and weaknesses; something you'll find mostly around Irish and British writers. The novel is mostly about vanity and its consequences, leading to a finale you probably expect, but still like. You should actually see for yourself.

I really enjoyed to read this book ! It is a really complex and interesting story ! With multiple layers of meaning, and Oscar Wilde style writing can be enjoyable !

The central theme of the picture reminds me in a way "The Portrait" by Gogol.... that I also liked a lot aha !

Anyway, I agree with october_dc... JML92, you should give "The picture of Dorian Gray" a try, it will not be a waste of time I think. And like that you will be able to make your own opinion about the book :)
If you read it, let us know what you will have think about it, thanks !

You should read it - if not for other reasons then because it is undeniable classic. You can see the ending coming miles away, but I personally enjoyed the book.
Sometimes Wilde does describe things of no consequence in great detail which might get annoying and dull, but all in all it is interesting and even somehow up to date.
Now that I think of it, I suddenly want to read it in English - I have read translation years ago and it would be nice to know if I would be able to get more out of it.

This book is my absolute favourite novel (with Oscar Wilde being my favourite author), but it can be very slow going.
I tell everyone who reads it to just persevere - it's not as slow or long as Les Miserables, or Count of Monte Cristo, but it's still slow.
The plot isn't too hard to grasp, but it mainly revolves around characters of high Victorian society, so they can come off as arrogant a lot of the time (sometimes a turn off).
However, the way Wilde writes and the overall story and message is what made this book my favourite.
Each to their own, though :)

I find it really fascinating, the novel astonishes us with the beauty of interiors, some phrases said by Lord Henry.
I think I will read it again.

I fully recommend it! I don't think it was boring AT ALL.

It is beautifully written; I found myself underlining bits of it as I read because some of the sentences in it were just so witty or enchanting. O.W is an impeccable writer. I think this is my favorite of his too, it is quite dark but easy to follow. I love the characters in it, they are all sort of horrible really but that's half of the point, its dark.
I could hardly put it down - there were parts I found slower than others but I don't think I have ever read a book and not thought that at some point. Especially with classics. But that is neither here nor there.
