Do they? After all, not all mothers are good mothers. I'm sure loving another person more than oneself is not constrained to women, but I'm not so sure that such an ability is necessarily a good thing; there is such a thing as loving yourself too little. |
I'm referring of course, to healthy individuals. People with serious mental health problems (and I'm a therapist so I see this all the time) are a different story. And I think your children should ALWAYS come before yourself. Other people, no, there needs to be a healthy balance between yourself and others. It's not to say some men can't love someone else more than themselves, but, to be quite frank, I find it rather rare that they do. Just my opinion. And yes, I do think it's more common among women, specifically because of maternal instinct.

The situation can be such that the survival of your children depends on your life. In that case, do you prioritize your life or your children's lives?
