The sentiments in this article about and by Richard Leakey, pretty much sum up my own thoughts on the subject matter; the mounting evidence will turn into a flood of acceptance and the deniers won't have anything left to stand on except some of the intransigent ignorance they already display. Then they will be openly ridiculed for not accepting the reality of life and our amazing lineage.

Just had to come back to this
There is a growing confidence amongst Creationists that the tide is turning in their favor. Just over 50 years ago, there was virtually no opposition to evolutionism and many churches had compromised on their beliefs. Now there is a growing movement of scientists who are teaching that scientific evidence supports the Genesis account of creation. A recent article in NATURE is sure to annoy some with its title '
South Korea surrenders to creationist demands

Creationists are under no illusions that evolutionism will disappear... But it seems that evolutionists such as Leaky are not willing to accept the new reality. |
Or maybe you are just pushed so far into the corner by all the scientific advancements in the last 50 years, that make your literal interpretation of the Bible seem totally ludicrous, you can't help but snap at the hands of progress. And what we are observing is the animal in its dying throws (to paraphrase A.C. Grayling) |
Its funny but the opposite is true. Just over 50 years ago a conference celebrating Darwin predicted that opposition to evolution would die with increased education. But as education increased, so has the Intelligent design movement... so has the creationist movement... and so has secular skepticism increased. With increased education in South Korea, the USA and other countries... Darwinism, as we know it now will be the dying animal. |
Of course. After all why wouldn't a scientific theory succumb to a bunch of rabid nincompoops fighting for the leg to stand on their last remaining foundation of ignorance. We should all just put away our thinking caps, discard science all together and embrace the Lord that is our Saviour, except when in times of crises like earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, volcanic eruptions, wars, plagues, rapes, murders, child abuse, miscarriages, deaths of children, cancer, dementia, cosmic radiation, impact events, climate changes, lost football games and Emmy awards etc, coz that's just our Saviour punishing us for our transgressions and we should just put up and shut up in case He goes all Old Testament on our whinging ungrateful behinds.
Margaritas for all, I say.

Evolution to fall in 2012?
Proponents of atheistic evolution have been hit with some bad news lately, which has one leading author proclaiming 2012 may be a tough year for Charles Darwin’s theory of human origins.
A Gallup survey, Google.com search trends and some Amazon.com sales numbers all suggest evolution’s ideological opponent, creationism, is on the rise in America.
Last week, for example, the Gallup polling organization released a survey indicating that the percentage of young-earth creationists in the United States has not only increased in the last two years, but also remains the most common explanation for human origins believed by Americans.
The article states, “Forty-six percent of Americans believe in the creationist view that God created humans in their present form at one time within the last 10,000 years. The prevalence of this creationist view of the origin of humans is essentially unchanged from 30 years ago, when Gallup first asked the question.”
The Gallup article and survey went on to show that even though these figures have remained virtually the same for about 30 years, there has actually been a slight up-tick in the number of U.S. citizens who believe in a young-earth creationism account of human origins.

ID is indeed an ideological opponent to evolution, not a scientific one.
What non-scientists believe is irrelevant. Eamon de Valera once said "a people can be wrong". There was a time here in my country when people commonly believed in eugenics.
Most American science teachers and media are likely biased towards one of the two theories and this is likely more important for people's beliefs rather than what science really says.
