Don't forget the bats, too.

The hub of an Enercon E-126 is more than 100 meters above ground. Are there really bats who can fly that high? If there are, there could be use for a radar system which warns bats of the danger: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/jul/17/radar-bat-wind-turbine

Based on what evidence regarding global warming?

I have already shown sources confirming that global warming do exist.

This article has a chart that outlines deaths of birds by various methods. Not one mention of Global Warming:

This doesn't mean that global warming isn't a threat to wildlife. Just that this article didn't happen to mention it proves nothing. Furthermore I have already explained that only antiquated and badly placed wind towers are dangerous to birds and neither is the case with the Markbygden wind farm.

Killing of birds and bats by striking aren't the only problems with these things, there are also the vibrations caused by them:

I'd like to know which type of wind towers this wind farm used. Enercon turbines have no mechanical gears so they wouldn't cause as much vibrations as less advanced models.

Markbygden is nowhere near any tectonic gap anyway and the area has no native population.

Do you seriously mean that vibrations are a larger problem than global warming or a big nuclear accident?

Would you prefer to be dependent on Middle Eastern dicatorships for your energy supply? If you invest in wind power your money will remain in the US economy and create jobs. Haven't you heard the slogan "Buy American - the job you save may be yours"?

Well it's good to search for cleaner energy sources, and wind farms certainly fit the bill.

I can't help but hate them though on looks alone. I visit Norfolk quite often and an area that used to be so pleasant to drive through near Swaffham is now housed by ugly monstrosities that destroy the landscape Ñòðàäàíèå :( Evil or Very Mad

I know there is good intentions behind their construction, but for the sake of a beautiful countryside I hope other options are explored more fully in future (as I'm sure they will be).

Doesn't it make sense to use some of the energy from renewables to pump water at hydro-electric facilities? Thus enabling us to use the later as an "on demand" source. Necessitating the need to invest in both, whenever, where-ever we can.

Aesthetics and wildlife be damned I'm afraid, just build the things. What happens if we don't is likely to be a lot worse than a spoiled view and a bit less guano.

Think there's been quite a lot of leg pulling going on this thread at your expense over the birdies Lyshom. Razz

Saving the climate is vastly more important than the scenery. Furthermore the Markbygden area is very remotely located, is not a tourist destination and is not significantly inhabited so no one is going to be disturbed.

Other options like solar power and waves and tides are also currently being explored.

This seems like a good idea. There are many hydro dams in northern Sweden. I don't know if any research has been done on such power storage.

I agree on that. The aestethical impact and the very minor wildlife disturbance are insignificant problems compared to global warming or a big nuclear accident. People who complain over bird strikes are blowing this insignificant problem vastly out of propotion. Even ornitologists support wind towers because global warming is a much larger threat to bird populations.

It's not correct either that wind towers are too expensive. The cost has been decreasing with 15 percent every time the global capacity doubles which happens every three years. Wind energy is already cheaper than some fossil fuels even if the cost of damage caused by global warming is not considered.

I guess I'm the only one here who actually likes the way wind farms look? And actually, in the US, such hydro-pumping stations already exist. In our electricity market (at least in the mid-atlantic states), the price of electricity can often become negative at night, meaning you'd get paid to use it. So, some companies consume massive amounts of negatively-priced electricity at night, storing the energy. Then, during the day, they generate the electricity again and sell it for another profit. So it's definitely feasible.

So do I! I see them as signs of progress. Enercon turbines are especially beautiful because of their drop-shaped nacelles.

Some locations maybe unsuitable for wind farms but there is space enough anyway.

I do not understand the meaning of this array of symboles.

Here are a few lines of lyrics from an old Scottish sea shanty:

Don't you weep, my bonnie wee lass
Though you be left behind
For the rose will grow on Greenland's ice
Before we change our mind

This is now about to happen Exclamation

Bahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

try these lyrics Idea

Please could you stop the noise, I'm trying to get some rest
From all the unborn chicken voices in my head
What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but not an android)
What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but not an android)

When I am king, you will be first against the wall
With your opinion which is of no consequence at all
What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but no android)
What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but no android)
