I think these 'teach yourself' kind of books usually suck. Pretty much all of the stuff in those books can be found in links such as this one:

There's also an excellent grammar by William Derbyshire, the very best in my opinion. I can't find the link right now but if you have time to google it you'll find its complete pdf. It's called "Basic Reference Grammar of Slovene".
Grammars can be a bit overwhelming at first, but if you really want to master the language it's really worth having one nearby
