The only people who really enjoyed the world were busy breaking it up.
Orthodoxy, by G.K. Chesterton

The sound of trains off in the distance more or less made me feel at home, like nothing was missing, like i was at some place, never in significant place and that everything was fitting together.
Chronicles I (Bob Dylan)

To stay with my community, to pretend that I had simply to travel along with them, was to be taken with them to destruction. I could be master of my fate only if I stood alone.
A Bend in the River (V.S. Naipaul)

You want to know what I am, do you ? […] But I tell you this, that you will have found that the truth of the last tree, and the topmost cloud before the truth about me. You will understand the sea, and I shall be still a riddle ; you shall know what the stars are, and not know what I am. Since the beginning of the world all men have hunted me like a wolf – kings and sages, and poets and law-given, and all the philosophers. But I have never been caught yet, and the skies will fall in the time I turn to bay.
The Man Who Was Thursday (G.K. Chesterton)
