About Me:
*****I'M AWAY FROM 23/11 TO 13/12******* (dont miss me too much!)
Before we get started: Let me say a bit about myself. Firstly, I'm not British and I wasn't born here. I've been living here for several years but I'm actually South African and Austrian. Complex, I know ;)
I still didn't put up a picture of myself yet but at least my theory works. I've made some good friends here who didn't care at first that they didn't know what I looked like and it prooves that they're genuine people who really want to make friends, not talk to hot girls and boys :P
I love music and books more than most things. I could listen to music all day long if I wanted to and I house a collection bigger than the empire state builiding, probably..or maybe that's a bit extreme.

Requests:
Update: I'd really like to meet some Canadians!! So please, contact me Canadians :)
Also, who likes to hike? If so I'd like to talk to you!! I would love to be able to go hiking/camping with people but due to lack of people interested in that its not an option for me ;) So if you're into exploring have a chat with me. Maybe some day we can meet and go on some great adventures together.
I'm open to talking to anyone really as long as you...:
DO have an open mind and a good sense of humour
DON'T ask me to marry you and whether I have a boyfriend in the first sentence we speak
DO love music, film, books, travel, the world
By the way, no offence, but if you're so much older than me chances are I'm probably not going to want to talk to you.
I want to do some music swaps with people too so let me know if you're interested.

Language Exchange Requests:
Please, don't think that I'm fluent in either Dutch or German because I'm not! It's just that I know minimal amounts of the languages, so put it under 'languages I know' - thanks!
Interests, Hobbies, etc.:
Music is my main love. European stuff is my favourite (most out of The Netherlands) but I'll listen to anything if it sounds good to me. Yes, I still buy cd's and I actually really love collecting them. I guess at the moment I've only got about 200+ but you know, cd's are not exactly cheap :) I don't buy cd's because I feel I have to 'support the artist' - I buy them because I enjoy the artwork and having the actual product. I like special cd's the most and I've got a couple of signed ones which I treasure. My favourite cd that I own is probably my Broken Beats one (Danish band) as it was given to me by their singer as a gift.
I love reading too and again would read anything besides trashy woman's books about romance and affairs. I also love collecting books! Especially collections and series, as well as special editions of books, illustrated versions and just hardbacks. I guess my favourite book is my hardback edition of The Solitaire Mystery by Jostein Gaarder (because its my favourite book and one of my first ones) or maybe my first Edition of African Nights by Kuki Gallman. I'm not an elitist or a book nazi :P I just really enjoy collecting books, as I do with cds. Oh yeah, I love collecting foreign language ones too. So far I've got quite a few Dutch, some German and some Italian.
I also enjoy the following things: Cooking, travelling, languages, crafts, films, fashion and much, much more! I got my own recipe books where I've been cutting and pasting recipes for a few good years now. Call me old fashioned, but I'm the type that would like to hand down family recipes. In crafting I'm mostly into paper crafts, like card making, but I love to mess around with paint, clay, knitting needles and even (recently) a needle and thread :) As for fashion....well..this is something else. I have a closet full of shoes that I don't actually wear all that often. Reason why? Okay, well I've got a thing about shoes. I can really appreciate a good looking shoe (crazy, I know) but hate to wear them sometimes.
I'm a history geek when it comes to American history. I love everything to do with the Civil War and the discovery of the West/Native American way of life.
I'm into nature too but barely ever experience true nature myself (where I live is not the most natural of places). I recently watched a documentary they made in the UK about a guy who tried to survive alone in the Yukon. Scenery was beautiful, but he couldn't survive alone. Makes me wonder if I would be able to - since I like being alone I think its possible..but more than likely I would get eaten by bears during day 1.
Oh yeah, before I go, I also collect any notes/letters/cards or other memorabilia I've ever had. I've been doing this since I was about 7 or 8 years old. I've still got letters from my childhood best friend and my first penpal. I've acquired a few postcards over the years and nothing makes me happier than to have a postcard pop through the door or a letter with a foreign stamp on it.
I could make this list forever, so perhaps its best I leave things here :)

Favorite Music:
If you're interested I'm working on my Top 20 albums of 2009 list on my last.fm - find it over here www.last.fm/user/aschne.
Things I'm listening to lately:
Alberta Cross
Moss
Kings Of Convenience
Dennis Kolen
As I said, stuff out of Europe ;) Please check my last.fm account if you want to know more: www.last.fm/user/aschne
Some favourites:
I'm opening to listening to anything and trying out anything, not matter what the genre. I can from classical to hip-hop in about 60 seconds flat, so try me.
I enjoy listening to the radio too, but its mostly foreign channels. That way it helps language and promotes good music at the same time.

Favorite Movies:
I love world cinema. My favourites are...well..pretty much anything Daniel Bruhl has ever been in :P Goodbye Lenin is the nicest one to watch, though :) Amelie is good too and alot of films with Charlotte Gainsbourg in them. I really enjoyed watching Zwartboek too- great Dutch movie!
I recently watched Into The Wild for the first time ever. I fell in love with it, very deeply. I would watch it again and again, too. The soundtrack is really something too - great to listen to. I'm going to read the book next.

Favorite TV Shows:
I watch alot of television too. My favourites are True Blood, Dexter, 10th Kingdom, Gilmore Girls, Pushing Daisies, Desperate Housewives, The Simpsons and much more, too. Curb Your Enthusiasm makes me double over in laughter every time - I can't get enough of it. I recently just watched Generation Kill (okay, so it was purely the fact that Alexander Skarsgard was in it that lured me at first) and it was actually pretty good viewing. Cookery programmes are a vice of mine too - I watch Masterchef religiously when it's running and I really like anything that Gordon Ramsay is in too (he's just too funny). Oh yeah, I watched 'Hung' a few times before - odd plot to the story (can you guess what it's about?) but it's pretty good.
Favorite Books:
My favourite book of all time is The Solitaire Mystery by Jostein Gaarder. I have a funny quirk of reading 3 or 4 books at the same time. Right now those books are The Lost Book Of Salem, Give Your Heart To The Hawks and Definitely Dead. I'll read anything to do with mythical beings or that has a crazy plot. I also really love to read things based on WW2.
Favorite Quotes:
"Back now in my mother country and ready to kick ***!"
"...Giving Jason Stackhouse Vampire Blood is like giving ho-hos to a diabetic...You know he can't control himself..."
" maybe Im just...unboyfriendable.."
"Humans...honestly Bill, I don't know what you see in them"
"There's a vampire in your cleavage"

Oh come on! :D It's just a snailmail letter, not a job application letter for the highest position within the UN. ;)
*googles what a bean bag actually is* Oh crap! Ehm, as long as you're gentle with me... ;) You forgot to put some of that yucky lemon stuff in your hand luggage.
I guess there's only 1 way to find out whether I'm squishy enough to act as a bean bag. ;) So how's the packing going?
I wouldn't mind being your personal bean bag, but I do when you feel as if you're flu-ish. ;)
Eat some oranges, drink some tea and you'll be fine. :)
If you can put all of those songs on a CD, it would be great. But otherwise, just send the letter already and I'll get your music after I've send you a letter back (hopefully with USB stick filled with music that isn't your cup of tea anyway ;) ).
Waiting for 5 hours at an airport. That'll probably feel like more of a burden than the 15 hours in the plane. What the hell are you supposed to do on an airport for 5 friggin' hours? :S
How far is it from the airport till the city centre of Johannesburg? If it's not that far, you might want to look for some lockers, put your luggage in it and you'll be back in about 3 or 4 hours.
It looks like we've got the rain that has been there with you a few hours ago. So leave that open spot open for me please! :P

The 3D thing was rubbish so you've not missed much Amy. I was disappointed on a suicidal scale. HAHA! Not really, but still.
Where on Earth are you going? Says on your profile you're going to be away. You can't just leave! Haha! - I suppose it's nice to get away for Christmas somewhere.
I thought I was going to drown today it rained so much. D:

I saw that preview about that guy in a wheelchair as well, wasn't that movie called Avatar?
When I'm checking IMDB, it says that the guy that plays Jacob is pretty sporty at high school. So I guess it wouldn't have taken him ages to get in such a shape.
So how long do you expect to be flying?

At least that's 1 advantage in the next time you'll visit Amsterdam; the decision making will be a lot easier and quicker. :) So we can also go to the cinema, and then there are always decent pubs like The Old Bell and St. James's Gate nearby for us to take a drink.
Why I chose New moon, is because that friend of mine has been talking about it for a while already, so I thought I might as well go and see it so I can actually have a verdict about it, especially because the other movies didn't become a lot more appealing when I checked their plot description on the posters.
Let's just say that New moon actually was fairly amusing, although it's not like I can't wait to go and see the next part of the Twilight saga. That crazy shizzle between vampires and wolves is growing old quite quickly. But with those guys and their athletic build (of which the dude that plays Jacob is only 17 years old... :S ), I can imagine why the movie is so popular amongst teenage girls though.
After a cloudy and rainy morning, we've had a pretty sunny afternoon, although it's getting more cloudy now again. And my mom just told me KNMI, the Dutch weather institute, already gave warnings for the stormy weather we're apparently going to get tomorrow.
I actually got my own effective system with packing. I got this system with things that I put in plastic bags before I'm putting them in my suitcase. I got my shirts, underwear and socks together in a plastic bag, then there's the plastic bag with electric stuff like my razor and battery chargers. And I got a separate bag for my bathroom stuff. All and all, it gives my stuff a little more protection, and it gives me a good overview of where I might have left something when I need it.
