About Me:

My name is john.
I am living & enjoying life in the Big Apple - the city that never sleeps - NYC.

I am an honest, friendly, caring,  open-minded and a warm hearted person. Anyone who knows me will tell you this.

I used to know some Korean (enough to carry a conversation) when I was younger. But now I have lost it all (you know what they say - you don't use it you lose it.
I would love to go back to learning the language as well as a few others.

I have always been fond of traveling & I would like to learn more about different cultures & customs, even if I don't get to visit a country. and the best way to learn is from the people who live there.

Also as you can see in my profile below - I love music & I love movies.
For some people their love is shopping (shopaholics!!), drinking, drugs, driving, fighting,  reading books or whatever.

For me, it is music & movies - they relaxes me whenever I am stressful.

The only purpose of life is not just to be happy. It is to be useful, to be responsible, to be compassionate. It is, above all to matter, to count, to stand for something, to have made some difference that you lived at all.
You make the world a better place by making yourself a better person.

Requests:

Friendly, kind & sincere people.
People to share ideas, recipes, culture, laughter and more importantly - to learn from each other.

Life is about learning - so let's learn from each other.

Please DO NOT add me as a friend without talking to me first.

Language Exchange Requests:

Knew some Korean as a kid - lost it all - I would love to learn again.

I am starting to learn Mandarin - I will be going to Hong Kong in January 2010 - vacation with friends.

I am also slowly learning Tagalog.

I would also love to learn Japanese.

I am willing to help anyone with learn English.

Interests, Hobbies, etc.:

Movies - enjoy going to & collecting movies..
Sports - Playing (soccer & baseball), watching (almost all) & going to sporting events.
Music - Enjoy going to concerts, collecting & listening to music.
Plays - Going to Broadway Plays & well as Off-Broadway/local plays.
Cooking - Enjoy cooking & well as learning& trying new recipes.
I enjoy "lazy" days in the park - just sitting there, relaxing doing nothing.
Enjoy going to Conventions - whether its sports, comics/games/anime, cars, etc.
Electronics - Enjoy reading about or trying out the latest gadgets.
Shopping - I am NOT a shopaholic, but ask me about something & I will direct you to 10 different places that carry it.

Favorite Music:

My favorite genre would be R & B.
My taste in music is huge -  I enjoy just about ALL kind of music - as long as it is good.
On my MP3 player I would play Babyface followed by Neil Diamond then Metallica then Sean Paul then N-Trance then Gorillaz then Mary Mary. I think you get the idea.

TRIBUTE TO MICHAEL JACKSON - The Game's New Video For "Better On The Other Side" featuring. Chris Brown, P.Diddy, Polow Da Don, Mario Winans, Usher & Boyz II Men

Bill Withers - Ain't No Sunshine

Such a wonderful song & a great loss -  RIP Aaliyah - you will always be missed.

This is one of my favorite songs:

Favorite Movies:

My movie viewing choices:

Epics:
I love epic movies - 10 Commandments, Dances With Wolves, Ran, Lords Of The Ring, Brave Heart, Seven sword (TV Series)..etc. I enjoy watching epic movies.

Horror/Thrillers:
I used to be big on horror movies -BUT the recent "quality" of some the horror movies being made this decade have left me not watching it much.
I prefer the "older" stuff - Rosemary's baby, The Shining, Jaws, Halloween, Salem's Lot. There have been some good recent (post 2000) ones that I enjoyed like " Shaun of the Dead" The Host, The Eye.

Romance/"Chick flicks"
Yes, this is coming from a guy - I watch & enjoy "chick flicks".
And yes I do cry during some scene -I was in tears at the end of "City of Angels" , tears was dripping down my face. Psss, don't tell anyone.

Action/Adventure /Crime Drama:
I am big on this.

Comedy:
Who doesn't like to laugh -  remember laughter is the best medicine.

Sci-Fi
Star Wars, Star Trek, The Terminator, X-Men etc, etc ... I enjoy sci-fi.

Anime / Cartoons:
At one time I was the biggest anime fan - I guess I got too busy & too much to do, I lost touch.  I need to revisit this genre. Cartons I enjoy, Tigger & Daffy Duck are my favs characters, Sorry Bugs Bunny & Winnie the Pooh.

Musicals:
Not too big on them, but I do watch & enjoy them.

Martial Arts/ Kungfu:
I grew up on this genre - If there is a good kung fu/martial arts movie out there- chances are that I have already seen it or have it in my collection.

Foreign
Bollywood, HK, Japanese, Korean, Thai..etc, I watch & enjoy them all.
And for me personally, there is no such thing as a foreign movies (subtitle yes..but not foreign), either the movie is good, bad or so so.

As you can see I enjoy a wide variety of movies.

My motto is:
You cannot talk about, criticize, judge or  recommend something if you haven't seen it, know about it or experienced it.

Favorite TV Shows:

Anything but the news.  LOL.

To name a few: Smallville, Supernatural, CSI, Two & A Half Men, One Tree Hill, Grey's Anatomy (I missed most of this past season- will have to catch re-runs), Scrubs (I will miss that show).

This was one of my all time favorite TV show:
In Living Colour:

Favorite Books:

I mostly read magazines - travel, sports, entertainment...etc.
But I always tend to pick up a book or 2 and read - especially if it have been adapted into a movie as I like to read the book before seeing the movie.

The last good book I read was ]My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult.  A tear jerker. Now I have to wear sunglasses when I see the movie so no one see me cry. lol

There are 3 books I am waiting to read:
The Lonely Bones by Alice Sebold - I started reading it (as the movie is directed by Peter Jackson) but the book "mysteriously" disappeared from my desk at work.

The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown (have read all his other books).
The Bourne Deception (7th in the Jason Bourne series, haven't read the last 2 but will do a "trilogy" reading when this one comes out).

Favorite Quotes:

Sometimes it's the things that you can't do, that bring out the brilliance of what you can

" Your footsteps may not always be loud, but your footprints leave a silent message of where your soul has travelled."

"When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die, you're smiling and veryone around you is crying".

"The greatest ironies of life: having the right person at the wrong time, having the wrong person when the time is right, and finding out that you love someone after that person walks out of your sight".

"You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted then used against you".

"In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: It goes on".

" When you give more than you take, you'll always receive more than you give."

To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart.

" Two people meet while walking down the street. Each person has just one dollar in their pocket. After meeting, the two people exchange the dollar and continue on their way. They walk away with one dollar in their pocket. Across the street, two people meet while walking down the street. Each person exchanges an idea. Now those two people walk away with two ideas. Which side of the street would you like to walk on?"
