hi there!! sorry it took me a while to reply, but anyway! yes i did my ug in celtic stduies. i just was really interested in the whole celtic things. listened to irish music, was really into celtic mythology, i *was* pagan/druidess (lol...) so in the end i asked myself why study something im not interested in when i can study something i really want to learn? i don't know what's like in america, but in the UK there aredifferent kinds of celtic courses.
usually it's like this:
celtic studies: you do mainly language and literatures of the celtic countries (most or all of them, but certainly Irish or Galic and Welsh) up to the Middle Ages. there is always also some historical course to go with it clearly like "how the church came to be established in ireland" rtc..
then you can have things like "irish studies" of "welsh studies" where you concentrare on the language and lit of one langugae from the origin to the present day .
so i don't really know what you are more interested in but if i can give any help gimme a shout!! ciao!!

Well, not having met Margaret Thatcher IS a blessing, isn't it?
I know a few words in Irish, but not that much. I was to Ireland last week actually, came home last monday. It was wonderful. We were in Cork, on a choral festival with my choir. (www.myspace.com/vokalensemblen if you want to listen to us...)
What's with the utilitarism of the world today? Does everything have to be so useful? Art never has been, and we spend billions on it every year. Why not spend some time on other useless stuff?
(Ah, just the traditional American ignorance, I guess... =P)

Hehe, lots of things ^_^ Even though Sweden hasn't been in a war of 200 years, we pretty much fought everywhere in teh old days ^_^ In the emdieval times, Sweden made trader with Hansan in Germany, we had a union wiht Denmark and Norway. In the 16th century our first real king, Gustav Vasa lived. Sweden has always been enemies with Denmark. The southern parts of Sweden belonged to Denmark, but in 1658 Sweden won them. Not everyone was happy about that, so there was some bandits called Snapphanar. After that Sweden won a lot of battles, and a big part of Europe belonged to Sweden. But then the battles got worse, and the Swedes began to lose. Everyone was tired of the war, and the King got shot. In the 18th century not much happened, a king got murdered during a ball. In the 18th century a fourth of Sweden's population emigrated to America. And then the world war came ^_^ But Sweden weren't very neutral :P
That was a quick version of Swedish history! XD
I've never actually read much about Irish history, but I can believe it's interesting. I think my favourite parts in hsitory is medieval times, the classical cultures, the 19th century Snapphanar and the world wars :) And I like to know what they cooked, how they cleaned and how people lived their everyday life ^_^
