About Me:
I enjoy communicating with varied and interesting societies around the globe, places which only a decade ago would have appeared exotic and unobtainable but are now closer with this e-mail thing.
I have an ambition to finish reading War and Peace and Moby Dick without going insane. I also have a near phobic fear of CCTV cameras. I mean, I may be looked at by hundreds of people every day without my knowing, but cameras are ju-ju magic which would steal my soul.
I believe that sweetbreads are a vastly under-rated food.
Six series of Homicide: Life on the Street and 80% of the complete The Wire have brought me to love and grieve for Baltimore like an abused sister.
Evidently, I am not the fascist bunny from Efrafa Warren. If you're desperate to know more, I can oblige but will retain anonymity on public access.

Requests:
"Friend" means much more than "someone you know on the Internet", so my adding Interpals users doesn't come cheap. Please do not add me without having first chatted. Likewise, if you bookmark me, please at least make your profile visible (you know who you are).
Looking for male or female contacts, upwards of 20s. Level headed and not interested in becoming blind-drunk each week. Most political stripes are welcome - neo-conservatives, classical Liberals, members of the new puritan Left - but expect disagreements on politics! Alternatively, we could simply discuss gossipy matters.
I'm looking just to speak to varied and interesting societies abroad. To have stimulating conversations, with a dash of paprika. I am open to e-mail and particularly amenable to snail mail.
Also, please no money requests (not even if it's to give to me, as there will be bound to be a catch) or religious-stuff. I'm not receptive to users whose profile piccie is blank (at least put in *something* about yourself) or of a sultry-looking woman blowing a kiss (yeah, there may be some Internet users so oversexed that they would seek out 10 pixel wide images from Google Maps of sunbathers, but you ain't speaking to one here).
And I most certainly do *not* respond to prospective e-mails which include their e-mail address, or start with "hello dear, har (sic.) are your family?".
I am brutal and, if I suspect you are scamming, I *will* flag your profile for Moderator attention. I ain't had one miss-fire yet.

Interests, Hobbies, etc.:
Mouse badminton; guinea pig tennis; kitten juggling; gerbil snooker; puppy cricket; tortoise frisbee. Arguing that the destruction of the Death Star in Return of the Jedi was a war-crime and act of genocide.
Favorite Music:
Where to start? Anouar Brahem; Jan Garbarek; Tomasz Stanko; Monteverde; Palestrina; Jordi Savall; Brahms; Tchaikovsky; Rachmaninov; Ella Fitzgerald; Duke Ellington; Captain Beefheart; Sons and Daughters; Mike Batt.
Can I choose more later?

Favorite Movies:
Films, they're called films! Lots. Tarkovsky's good.
Favorite TV Shows:
Numb3rs, The Wire, Engrenages, The Shield... something with an ethnic mafia. The Wire, did I mention that before? Well, it's worth a second mention.
Favorite Books:
Are those things with pages and funny squiggles? Postman Pat and the Armed Robbery was good.
Favorite Quotes:
Okay, movies/films is a personal preference, but a quote is something your builder gives. Quotations are:
... never trust a man who, if left alone in a room with a tea cosy, does not try it on.
... sometimes you need a clockwork cat to catch clockwork mice.
... I beseech you in the bowels of Christ, consider that you may be mistaken!
... come back, they're only dogs!
... when I was a child I spoke as a liberal I understood as a liberal, I thought as a liberal; but when I became a man I put away childish things and became a Liberal.
... between the desire, and the spasm, between the potency, and the existence, between the essence, and the descent, falls the Shadow.
... chain of command, McNulty. Chain of command.

Hmmm, maybe you're right. Is it really calvinist though? I didn't think we were all that dreary :-)
Are you saying then that had it been set in the UK they'd not be able to shoot and beat the crap out of people? I'm sure I've seen that in plenty of British police series - where's the fun without it anyhow?! ;-)

I'm glad to hear no one tries to do a Swedish accent at least, but isn't it still kinda weird??? I mean, if they took over the character as such and put him in a British context I could understand but why they've decided to stay on in Sweden is what baffles me :-)
Not that they're complaining in Ystad though (the city where its set) cause it gives them a bit of profile!

Recieved, read, wrote a new letter yesterday... trying to get it out today.... :)
Well, the position of President of the European Council is not the one you should dread. The HR for Foreign and Security policy is the one we should be worried about - in essence, Ashton takes over 3 different hats and isn't only HR of the CFSP, but also vice-president of the Commission and she'll the new External Affairs Service. So this post is much more interesting in matters of power than Van Rumpoy's post. But both personalities are too weak to annoy anyone, and that's exactly why they were chosen. You don't choose someone famous with leadership qualities (such as Blair), but you choose the shy low-key figure in the corner, who is so harmless that everyone can agree upon.
Oh, van Rumpuy it will be. But Catherine Ashton? That's bad! Apparently she is completely incapable. Also, the High Representative is going to be quite powerful and I cannot see her taking over from Solana. But she is a woman... and a socialist. So everyone seems to love her.
I tried getting access to it through the BBC website but no go.
I'd love to see the English version of Wallander as the whole idea seems so surreal lol Is it popular over there?
