Author Robert Mukiibi from Uganda says, “My motivation comes from a vast array of things,

but foremost, the misinterpretation of love in my country or the lack of it in families, couples, and friends. I felt like I should begin to write in a way that would open people’s eyes to the truth and nature of love. I want to be a global voice, speaking through poetry to uplift the faint-hearted and rekindle lovers’ hearts. That’s one part of my motivation. On the other side, I am motivated by what I see, hear, read, and from pain, sorrow, happiness, and imagination.

About the Author
From Kampala, Uganda, Robert Mukiibi is a self-taught poet whose passion for writing falls among his heart’s most treasured preferences. He is the author of two other books of poetry, Curls of Ecstasy and Honey of Love. He started writing at age 14, and his poetry has appeared in newspapers and poetry publications. He was awarded a certificate of participation by UNESCO for writing an essay in 2010 for the Goi Peace Foundation in Japan.

What mine said--
"I consist
Of you."

It's hard to caution
New lovers,
They will mock every advise
Because
They are wild truth
Chasing flickering light.

I saw you picking the keys
From the flower pot
The first day you brought me here
so when I missed the
Intense happiness
You gave my heart,
I came over and opened for myself.

It's hard to caution

I am so sorry
I am not saying this
To amuse
Your ears or to easily win your forgiveness
As much as I need it;

I am sorry,because I admit
I did wrong

And truthfully,

"Your tears and pain owe me
Trust and love that erases what I put
You through."

Accept my apology,
Please!

After saying no to you,
I heard sounds of your brokenness
Echoing
In the gaps of my eardrums
Falling upon each other like debris
From a skyscraper under construction.

I saw darkness through the cracks of
Your sadness
I saw the glow of your complexion
Paling off your face like fake paint from
A wall on a rainy day.

I saw quakes of pain interrupting the flow of blood in your veins--
A fear in your bleary eyes carrying a casket of hope
And when time wailed louder than
Thunder,
The universe and nature pleaded with my reasoning;

My soul softened with conviction like butter melting on rekindled fire--
"If I am to say this In a direct and more precise way,
Saying no to you was a precursor of my mindfulness,
A preparation of my heart's gardens to grow flowers of bliss for you."
