Thanks a lot for your message!
Seneca begins his letters, as you know, “Seneca Lucilio suo salutem”.
I find a good idea to have a friend or to invent a virtual one, with whom one can shares observations and thoughts about things which happen in everyday life: it is a good method to live thinking and trying to consolidate one’s own system of interpreting reality.
In the first letter there is an idea that I find challenging : omnes horas complectere… Dum differtur, vita scurrit. Omnia, Lucili, aliena sunt, tempus tantum nostrum est: in huius rei unius fugacis ac lubricae possessionem natura nos misit, ex qua expellit quicumque vult… It is not easy to maintain the control over the time and to be able to explain how one spends it.
My studies are not very interesting right now: it is always useful to learn new information, but my brain is not often called to work critically. I don’t know if this is a problem of the Italian University or of my Faculty. For example one subject I had to study was: “The founding Fathers of European Union” (in English, now when England is leaving the Community): much information, hagiographic interpretation, as they were the Church’s fathers… Young people is not used to learn critically, therefore they don’t demand it. I think it is a shame.
Here few and nearly unrelated ideas. Sorry, I ‘m quite tired.
To your questions:
Yes, I think I'm to some extent a Stoic, I would like to see the things rationally, to understand which is their meaning.
I'll tell you next time how the exams are organised here. We have mid-term examinations theoretically only for working students and students who are later with their studies.
We take the collected olives (this year a record: 368 kg) to the oil mill and we get our own oil. If you wish to try it, tell me if it is possible to send a small bottle to the USA.
Best regards
Laura

Hello, thank you for your message!

I quitted teaching three years ago and at the end I was happy to retire because of the worsening of the situation in the Italian school. My subjects were Italian and history, but I liked also to translate Latin and Greek texts with my daughters, when they attented the school. My favorite author is Seneca. However I must say that in the last three years I undertook other challenges.
Now I'm studying for my last exam and my last test to graduate in Political Science at the University in Pisa.
When I decide to relax, I engage in setting up photo-books.
Besides, a house in the countryside requires committment and work: last week, for example, I had to pick olives: we are in Tuscany!
Indeed I like to do many things and to open my mind. Please, if you want, tell me something about your studies or your travels (I love travelling). Best regards
