About Me:
I've been a zoo docent, a bar bouncer, computer techie, kindergarten teacher, and Everest base camp climber.
I like to challenge myself and make myself better. I like teaching English and also how to teach English. I have a background in business, special education, as well as Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
I've spent time in Taiwan and Guatemala. I can speak Spanish and some Chinese.
The world can be a strange place--I believe in Quantum Mechanics--wyrd things can happen. I am a believer in positive thinking and imaging. I am a great friend. My friends describe me as being a person of integrity--which surprises me because I take it for granted (everyone should have integrity).
While traveling, sometimes I've pretended that I am a geographically ignorant American to Europeans. I've traveled to over 40 different countries and I've had a wide range of adventures. You could put me down in the middle of Mongolia for an adventure and I'd love it.
I can talk about a wide range of subjects--from special needs children, to stocks, to science and chaos theory in social sciences to self-help and popular culture (movies/books/music/TV). For example, the True Blood vampire series and TV show (Not Bad).
My Europe Notes:
Denmark: After talking to a Dane: 1) The Little Mermaid statue is over-rated. 2) Danes typically do not wear the famous horned Viking hats anymore :-(, and in fact, the Vikings did not wear such hats except at festivals. Sometimes Danes do wear a foam replica with red/white colours when there is a futbol game. Although Germany has apologized many times for its past, Danish government still has not issued an official apology in which case I recommend going grassroots and asking individual Danes to apologize for their Viking past (which they learn in school the Viking traded and brought culture to many places and not so much the raping and pillaging bit [and I thought Japanese modern history was a whitewash...]).
Germany: Did you know that the F**K word in English comes German and means: For Und Chancellor Kohl? From the long-time, popular German chancellor. Many times in other countries they say: "Well, it can't get any worse..." --they never say that in Germany.
Romania: Seems undiscovered and incredibly beautiful countryside. Romania isn't the Transylvania of Hollywood (but at least that image keeps the tourist riff-raff out!). Great value too.
If a zombie invasion happened? How would Europe handle it? But what would Berliners do if gangs of zombies started roaming the streets? Serbians? Would there be a indifference in some places, a protest in others, a parade in other places, or cheering the zombies on? Discuss with me your theories on EU zombie protocol in a United Europe.

Requests:
I'd like to especially meet people in Europe or the Far East (Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong & Macao). I've traveled but many times the people you meet are people in the tourist industry. My dream is to live in Ljubljana, Slovenia. I am also interested in the Far East: Philippines and Hong Kong, Macao as I'd like to teach English there. Taiwanese people rock.
I am interested in how a united Europe would react to a zombie invastion (would the reaction be the same everywhere? From Berlin to Belgrade?). Discuss.
Are you tired of people who post in ALL CAPS? Men who are half-naked in their profile photo? People who who so general so as to exclude a conversation: (e.g., "Music? All kinds. Book: Yes I like to read."). Stop in.

Interests, Hobbies, etc.:
Bicycling, traveling, writing, weights, reading, and (web) surfing.
I used to do Bando/Escrima/Kali. I'd like to get back into martial arts. The Filipinos I knew were great friends. I kid Filipinos that they make great friends or terrible enemies. They laugh--but do not disagree!
My bicycle's name is "Che" after El Che. I like riding on the dirt roads, the grasslands, the prairie, close to where I live.
I walk dogs for the Humane Society.
I like writing though I should be much, much more consistent about it. I've read several books on "How to Write" and attended a Writer's Workshop class at the UA. I"m a good copy editor and I'm good at giving feedback.
I love games. I have a Wii and I just stopped playing World of Warcraft. I'm pretty good at chess and backgammon. I like Poker, Connect 4, and Liar's Dice.

Favorite Music:
I like everything but one of my favorite albums is The Clash's Sandanista. On my IPOD you'd find lots everything from Spanish civil war songs to Black gospel.
Favorite Movies:
Clockwork Orange, BladeRunner, Leon, Groundhog Day, Borat, Twilight, The Dark Knight. One of these is not like the others...
Favorite TV Shows:
Arrested Development, Pushing Daisies, Dog Whisperer, Whale Wars, Battlestar Galactica
Favorite Books:
Don Quijote, Gravity's Rainbow, etc.
I really enjoyed Taleb's "The Black Swan" (nonfiction). I have new respect for people who say: "I don't know."
I love reading--it's great to do when it is late and you don't feel like doing much else. I read everything. Recently a lot of nonfiction (e.g., Black Swan) but if the book is good I will read it. I love libraries.
Elmore Leonard, Richard Laymon, Neal Stephenson, Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore, Terry Pratchett are some of my favorite authors just off the top of my head.
I'm in Kansas at the moment and I kinda work with "Roxy" who was the little girl in Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood" --who was the last person to the Clutter's alive. She told me she still doesn't answer the door late at night.
The only book I couldn't read was the first Twilight book where I wanted to shoot myself and kept reading waiting for something to happen and finally gave up. I believe that the Twilight series is a real blow towards any equality of the sexes and I cannot understand any sentient life forms buying the second book (the first book can clearly be a mistake) . I can pick a page at random in the book (for example) and the main character is describing sitting at her lunch table, munching carrots, and wondering if Edward noticed her. I try to educate fans of the series of how bad it is by grabbing their book and picking random passages in public places to read aloud. However, curiously, Twilight Fans seem to be unaffected by public scorn!
I detest the series so much that now I hate the early evening just on principle.

Favorite Quotes:
"A soulmate is someone who has the locks to fit our keys, and the keys to fit our locks. When we feel safe enough to open the locks, our truest selves step out and we can be completely and honestly who we are; we can be loved for who we are and for who we're pretending to be. Each of us unveils the best part of one another. No matter what else goes wrong around us, with that one person were safe in our paradise. Our soulmate is someone who shares our deepest longings, our sense of direction. When we're two balloons, and together our direction is up, chances are we've found the right person. Our soulmate is the one who makes life come to life. "
