I don't "read 'meme's on facebook", I carefully peruse thick tomes of substantial literary import. And if EB Hall tried to carve out a niche for herself in polite society by being a 'friend' of Voltaire and stealing all his best quotes, then it's no surprise that she's since been confined to the annals of history!

It was Voltaire who said that, I've seen it written somewhere. Anyway, he was just trying to come across as gracious in defeat when he said it, to disguise the fact that his pride was wounded, a fact bourne out by him being so image conscious as to create a fancy nom de plume for himself.
