It is an idiomatic expression in English to say that someone is an "armchair historian" or any other profession.
This is a person who reads and talks about history all the time (and perhaps even who blogs or writes about it) but is not paid for it. It is not a job, but a hobby they are completely fascinated by. These people are like historians, but only from the armchair they sit in to read :)
