Hi dear..

I said I didn't agree,I didn't say I was right.:P
There are so many definitions on fascism, and nowadays it certainly is used in a different way than in 1922.
For me fascism is an ultra-right, extreme nationalist political movement, that sees the state as the one and only authority, and (as the most important aspect) which allows the use violence and force to obtain it's political goals...B-)
Oh well... what do I know?

Anyway, I watched TV just the other day, and some republicans were interviewed. One women said Obama wants to change the US to the same model as "socialist Europe". And that was her greatest fear! lol.
I'm afraid Europe is anything but socialist, and she'll find that Europe becomes more and more like the US!...
Oh well... I DO like McDonalds from time to time..(Especially the fishburger)..:)

Here in Europe the connotation of the word socialism is different than in the US. The socialist party is the third largest party of the country, and than there is the social-democrat party, the second largest. (Oh well, not if elections were being held).
So, we generally don't think socialists are the anti-christ, and most of us do know the difference between communism en socialism, not to mention the difference between different implementations of communism and/or socialism. (Yugoslavia was very different from let's say East-Germany)

I don't think I'd agree on your definition of fascism as well.

Anyway, what happened here to our bank "Fortis" is different than a bailout. It is really and actually owned by the government now, and our minister of finance (I think you call him the treasurekeeper?) is the boss. The purpose is selling the bank after a couple of years with profit for the state.
There is a guideline that CEO's of privatized public-service companies should not earn more than 130000 Euro a year, but since this guideline doesn't work lawmakers are now discussing to make that a law.

I'm glad I understand Klein's book; it's all about privatization. And before a few month I would say neoliberalism (or whatever you might want to call it) had won. But more and more people here are not happy with all these privatizations, and find out that it's not always for the better. So I predict a change in the years to come, and maybe with the next elections the Socialist Party will be the largest in the country?

Joe the Plumber??? :P
Oh well, I don't know. Here in the Netherlands they just nationalized one of the largest banks, cut down salaries and bonuses and the board is supervised by the government. It's almost socialism, lol.
Discussion grows on how we let things gone too far after Reagan/Thatcherism. I mean, everything is privatised now: healthcare, public transport, energy... and people now discuss about maybe we should reconsider.

I'm halfway through The Shock Doctrine.. Too lazy to finish I guess...but now it seems that Milton Friedman's theories about the economy are crumbling... Neo-liberalism didn't win after all..:)
