Gosh, the media! I could go on and on about it....! But like you said, the best way to find out first hand is by traveling to that place! ....I agree, most people are good in the whole world. Our issue too is with foreign policy when it comes to the West and we know there's a difference between the people and governments and don't merge the two! Otherwise, we love American movies, music etc!

Traveling is always an eye-opener! You get to learn about places first hand, rather than depend on the media!
