For eighteen years, I have remained here.
With nothing to pursue,
I drift through profiles
like a pilgrim moving through sacred towns
seeing, sensing, passing on.
At times, a whisper within urges me to say “Hi.”
Most often, I keep the silence.
And when I finally speak,
the words dissolve into the air, unanswered.
I have learned this much:
truth does not live in the elegance of words,
nor in the beauty of a face.
What is most necessary
chooses the shadows,
and stays hidden from easy sight.
