I live and work in rural south east Queensland. I enjoy the peace and quiet of the country.
The iron delights not in its time in the fire, nor in the pounding upon the anvil. It endures the forging and the shaping to become more than the ore that it once was.
Our lives are borrowed from yesterday, but the debt is owed to tomorrow
If life came without the pain of failure then it would likewise come without the exhilaration of triumph
I am a single raindrop in a rain storm
I have singularity and uniqueness for but an instant
When a raindrop meets the ocean
who can measure the boundaries of a raindrop
A raindrop has form and singularity until it merges with another reality
I am a raindrop that falls in the ocean that is the universe
The universe is a single raindrop in a rainstorm
That falls into the ocean that is me.
Who can measure the boundaries of a raindrop when it meets the ocean.
Requests
Carl Sagan once wrote that writing is our greatest invention. I believe that it is because it is able to convey our feelings, thoughts and emotions and retain their validity across the barriers of distance and time. It is able to cut across the divides of race, creed and religion and unite disparate assemblages of people who may have never met. Writing is our spirit in visual form; the intangible made tangible and proof that humans can perform magic.
Send me some magic, people.
Language Exchange Requests
I would like to learn Chinese. I am generally interested in languages and how they relate to logic and understanding.
Different languages challenge my poor old grey matter but perhaps they will reinvigorate it

No man is an island entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as any manner of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man’s death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.
John Donne
Whoever undertakes to set himself up as a judge of Truth and Knowledge is shipwrecked by the laughter of the gods." - Albert Einstein
“Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it.” Mark Twain
“The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.”
Marcus Aurielius
For small creatures such as we the vastness is bearable only through love.”
― Carl Sagan
“We are like butterflies who flutter for a day and think it is forever.”
― Carl Sagan
Truth is the harvest scythe. What is sown - love or anger or bitterness - that shall be your bread. The corn is no better than its seed, then let what you plant be good.
the god Thoth from the Egyptian book of the dead
That deep emotional conviction of the presence of a superior reasoning power, which is revealed in the incomprehensible universe, forms my idea of God. Albert Einstein
No man ever steps in the same river twice. For it is not the same river, and it is not the same man. There is nothing permanent except change. - Heraclitus
We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us – E.M. Forster
There are three kinds of men: The ones that learn by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves. Will Rogers
“Most human beings have an almost infinite capacity for taking things for granted. That men do not learn very much from the lessons of history is the most important of all the lessons of history.” – Aldous Huxley
“If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed. If you read the newspaper, you’re mis-informed.”
Mark Twain
“Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won’t come in.”
― Isaac Asimov
