I love french films <mostly quite old ones like <MONSIEUR b BATIGNOLLE CRIME AU PARADIS SAINT JAQUES LA MECQUE,LES CHORISTES and many others I do not need English subtitles but I like french subtitles as I am a little hard of hearing-actually `I like English subtitles to English films and decidedly to American ones My Smerican is less fluent than my French
I love France but I Slso love Spain-which is cheaper and very friendly ` I once went on a tour with some Germans to France We spoke French everywhere even to each other We ended up at `Rocamadour but visited many places on the way down and back `I fell in love with `vaux-en -`Beaujolais which is `Vlochemerle If you have not read the book `I think you will enjoy it I like folk music snd classical music best but occasionally other genres I love folk music of other countries-like Corsican polyphony for example but fo not appreciate the bang and yell stuff-usually written in virtually unintelligible English so really old ans stuffy on that one-mind you <I hated pop-music as a teenager so no movement on that one ! I love architecture and one thing I love about France is the culture We once lost our car-could not find where we had left it but a friendly policeman told us upon hearing
“Outsides nineteenth century building with a doorway arch supported by Telamon rather then Caryatids Well, obviously I was speaking French but I would not have given much hope for understanding from an English policeman, even though I would have been speaking English They do not have the same deep entrenched love of ignorance in `France in my experience

well apparently I wrote you in July - do not think it was me but I do enjoy bridge and britcoms - the 60's music is definitely the best - Phil Spector anything and mysteries - ah yes - any Anne Perry and Linnley (by Elizabeth George) and maybe Ian Rankin . Miss Compo in Last of and over here we are getting the best of the Last of before he died and Nora Batty and the girls (poor Pearl) and Edie and her daughter and of course Jean Alexander and Smiler and does anybody remember Eli? Those were the days my friend - ML
