Hi Gilles,

I am writing to you in English this evening, but as my degree is in French, I will write to you in both French and English if you like my profile page.

When I was 19 I had my heart set on studying French, German and Politics at Sheffield Polytechnic. I continuously failed my Sociology A'level so I couldn't go. A long time later I hired a private French tutor and enrolled at a local university as an external student and got my French degree - if there's a will, there is a way.

I am very interested in the world around me and thoroughly enjoy watching the news and learning about current politics. That said, I also love comedy and police dramas.

Did you see the brilliant "Engrenages" ? It was broadcast in this country, with sub-titles quite recently. Very sadly it was the last series but Caroline Proust felt that after 15 years she wanted a different role to act in. That's fair enough isn't it?

Our son lives in China with his Chinese fiancee Kathy. I'm hoping that this year they will start the application for Kathy's residency in the UK. We talk regularly on WeChat but it would be great to have them back in our country. Kathy did her MA at York University and met Sebastian shortly afterwards.

Anyway, I've spoken a lot about me.

If you like my profile page then we'll talk again.

All the best,

Alison

I wonder if this is right? Ne demande pas ton chemin à quelqu’un qui le connaît, tu risquerais de ne pas te perdre.. ( Who can translate ? ) Do not ask your (for the ) way to (from) someone who does not know it, (if) you wouldn't risk to lose yours." Coucou all the way from KL, Malaysia.

My try at translation: You should never ask someone where they're going if they already know, because you'll risk not losing your way.

From Google translate: You should never ask someone who knows the way for directions, as you may not get lost.

My try at translation: You never speak as well as when you lie.
