About Me
Howdy! I'm an twenty-one year old Amerikanski from small-town Iowa. I'm looking to study in France, see the world, and experience all of Europe at some point if at all possible.
I'm a bit of a geek, and I spend most of my free time reading, writing, philosophizing, or playing games.
I would love to learn French, German, Swedish & Korean (possibly Greek, as well; it's fascinating linguistically), and I'd love to just have friends outside of the US to talk to. I like to think of myself as pretty open-minded, and I'll probably talk to you no matter who you are :)
Tack så mycket :)
Requests
Please don't get upset if you message me and I don't respond right away! I'm really sorry if that happens, but I can be kinda absent-minded, and I'm really not on here all the time.

Also fairly important - hardcore SJWs need not apply. Egalitarians welcome, Tumblr-Feminists not. And bigots obviously not welcome for obvious reasons. No racists, sexists, homophobes, etc. etc. etc.

PRC Apologists don't @ me.

I'm more than happy to have respectful debates most of the time, but as I get older I find it harder and harder to summon the energy to debate radicals on the internet, so please don't be surprised if I don't respond to politically-charged messages.
Hobbies & Interests
I spend a lot of time gaming, on electronics as well as the tabletop (I actually work in a hobby shop), reading, and dancing (a lot of swing and some ballroom).
I also have been dancing a lot of blues lately, and I would totally recommend anyone who is interested to check it out! It looks like this:

In addition, I play guitar, piano, ukelele, banjo, and ocarina (All extremely poorly).
I'm highly interested in philosophy, literature, history, and linguistics. I'm an anthropology major, so lemme know if you wanna talk about anthropology! My field is my baby, and I love it to pieces.
I also follow profession LoL occasionally, if any of y'all wanna talk about that.
Favorite Music
I listen to just about everything - my personal philosophy is that good music is good music, regardless of genre. Mostly, I listen to a mix of classic and indie rock, with some rap and jazz thrown in there as well.

Here are some songs I am absolutely loving to death atm:

I also listen to KPOP occasionally, so I figure I should mention that too. This does not mean I am a koreaboo. Please stop screaming to me about "HAoW ToooTalLY HAwT Parkk JIMIN ISZ????"

Finally, on a music RELATED note, I love my Sennheisers more than I love life itself :3
Favorite Movies
I don't really engage in non-interactive mediums very often, but I've always been fond of:
Princess Bride
Big Trouble in Little China
The LoTR film adaptions
Scott Pilgrim (although the graphic novels were better)
Singham
Kung Fury
& The Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy
Favorite TV Shows
Again, see movies, but I do watch more TV than movies. My personal favorites are:
Psych (RIP)
Rick and Morty
Doctor Who (but not the newest stuff, thanks)
Stranger Things
& Archer.
Favorite Books
My reading habits are about on par with my listening habits: I read just about everything, and basically always have. When I was a kid, I loved Goodkind, Tolkien, Rowling, and Pratchett. As I grew older, my tastes matured to include Frank Herbert, Verne, G.R.R. Martin, and Steig Larsson. Right now I'm reading "Parce Que Je T'Aime" by Guillaume Musso.

As for other books that I've read and loved and think y'all should maybe look into:
"All Quiet on the Western Front" By Erich Maria Remarque
"Meditations" By Marcus Aurelius
"Pillars of the Earth" By Ken Follet
"The Martian" By Andy Weir
& "Vendredi et la Vie Sauvage" by Michel Tournier
Favorite Quotes
"Be like a rocky promontory against which the restless surf continually pounds; it stands fast while the churning sea is lulled to sleep at its feet. I hear you say, 'How unlucky that this should happen to me!' Not at all! Say instead, 'How lucky that I am not broken by what has happened and am not afraid of what is about to happen. The same blow might have struck anyone, but not many would have absorbed it without capitulation or complaint.'" - Marcus Aurelius

"Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God." - Benjamin Franklin

I oppose censorship in all its forms because censorship- censorship is anti-progress. I don't say censorship is wrong out of some didactic "masturbating is wrong" attitude- censorship is not only wrong, it's illogical. Because you want people to say every point of view. That's because true progress is evolution of ideas, and evolution can only come from interbreeding and mixing of a variant of ideas. Let everyone speak, because if they're wrong: they'll just condemn themselves with their own words. And if they're right: whats the worst that can happen? They'll convince you? They'll prove you're wrong? What're you afraid of? I  don't think this should be so difficult: If you support censorship you are against freedom and free thinking. Why is this so complicated? - Benjamin "Yahtzee" Croshaw

' Zhuangzi and Huizi were crossing the Hao River by the dam.
Zhuangzi said, "See how free the fishes leap and dart: that is their happiness."
Huizi replied, "Since you are not a fish, how do you know what makes fishes happy?"
Zhuangzi said, "Since you are not I, how can you possibly know that I do not know what makes fishes happy?"
Huizi argued, "If I, not being you, cannot know what you know, it follows that you, not being a fish, cannot know what they know. The argument is complete!"
Zhuangzi said, "Wait a minute! Let us get back to the original question. What you asked me was 'How do you know what makes fishes happy?' From the terms of your question, you evidently know I know what makes fishes happy.
"I know the joy of fishes in the river through my own joy, as I go walking along the same river." ' - Zhuangzi
