COUPLES RETREAT movie review

I saw this movie when I was a kid called THE BIG CHILL.
It was about a group of friends who've known each other since college and they've reunited for the weekend for the funeral of one of their friend's who killed himself in the bathtub.
FYI...If I remember correctly they never actually show the guy's face on camera, but it was KEVIN COSTNER who played Alex the dude who kills himself at the beginning of the movie.
Moving On...
...Because of that movie whenever I'm around a group of friends just hanging out and partying I think of it as a Big Chill moment.
So, I like movies that are like that, which brings me to a little flick called COUPLES RETREAT.
The description said it was about a group of friends who go to an exotic Island for a week.
Thats what I was thinking too... PORNO!
But it wasn't.
It was a movie starring VINCE VAUGHN and JASON BATEMAN.
I know what you're thinking and I thought it too, this movie could be funny or it could really suck.
I've always liked JASON BATEMAN (Or is it Justine Bateman that I always liked?) he's a pretty funny guy, and his last name is almost BATMAN.
He plays a YUPPIE type of guy who along with his wife played by KRISTEN BELL (NICE!) convince 3 other couples to go away with them to an Island paradise and help save their marriage.
JOHN FAVREAU plays the asshole friend, doesn't he always play an asshole or am I just thinking of his character in I LOVE YOU MAN?
Oh, and he was in BATMAN FOREVER.
Everytime I see him I think...ASSHOLE...Maybe, its just me?
Anyways, he's the asshole guy with the hot wife and holy crap let me tell you his wife is hot.
I know what the tv show and movies SEX IN THE CITY are, but I never watched either. Really! Never! But I'm definitely a Charlotte.
KRISTIN DAVIS plays this asshole's wife and well, let's say I have a new crush.
It's just a crush as long as I don't follow or try to contact her right?
This little hotty is 45 and smokin' hot.
How in the hell was SARAH JESSICA PARKER the leader of that crew? Bullshit! Never would happen.
VINCE VAUGHN plays a dude who works for GUITAR HERO (who knows?) and has a loving wife and 2 loving kids.
FYI...Vince's dad Vernon has a cameo at the end of the movie playing who else but Vince's character's dad.
The last couple are played by a fat, black dude who I thought was CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER, but it wasn't, I don't know his name look it up.
He's plays a recent divorcee with a hot, little 20 year old girlfriend who only wants to PAR-TAY.
I don't know her name either, but she was very nice. VERY NICE.
Anyways,they get to the Island and it's a place where they "fix" marriages and in order to be fixed they have to be fractured first.
So, you probably get the idea.
Where comedy should ensue it doesn't.
This movie was a cross between THE BIG CHILL and CLUB PARADISE, that is if both of those movies sucked.
They didn't.

Check out the movie CLUB PARADISE sometime if you can.
Its a film from 1986 starring ROBIN WILLIAMS as a dude who gets injured on his job as a firefighter and uses his disability money to buy an tropical Island resort.
RICK MORANIS is HILARIOUS in it.
This movie was boring me 15 minutes in maybe because I was expecting it to be and wanting it to be funny.
And, it wasn't.
Even the dirty parts that should have been funny really weren't.
As someone whose a fan of crude it pains me to say that.
Jason Bateman played his usual neurotic, ocd-ish type and Vince Vaughn was his typical normal dude role who can't believe it when he finds out there are problems in his life.
He does the whole fast talking supposed to be funny bit.
Like I said before FAVREU's an ASSHOLE.
Finally, and I'm not complaining, but why did the aforementioned and very sexy Kristin Davis have to play the wife who almost hooks up with another dude?
Is it playing off of her Sex In The City persona or could it be that she can't act so she has to play the sexy chick?
Did I say she's hot?
Whatever!
They all make it off the Island and the black dudes ex-wife even shows up.
ON A SCALE OF ZERO TO FOUR GREGGIES "COUPLES RETREAT" GETS...
...1.5 GREGGIES.
...1 GREGGIE without the hot wives and girlfriend.
I'm sure the actor's and crew who went to BORA BORA to shoot this flick had a great time.
Whoever had to foot the bill...NOT SO MUCH.
