About Me
I'm a good listener as well as a long-winded writer and I enjoy email correspondence very much. I was married 17 years and have been divorced longer than that now, have 1 grown son who lives a few hours away. I'm a cat person. I have a dry sense of humor, am a loyal friend, dependable email pal, and, fair warning, if given the least encouragement, I will write your eyes off. :)

Although I have lived in Houston just about all my life, I have traveled to quite a few other states over the years, especially on summer vacations while growing up, and to a handful of European countries on 4 separate trips as an adult. Even though I've been out in the world a bit, there's still no place like home for me.
Requests
I am looking for meaningful correspondence, the sharing of the day's events, life's ups and downs, hopes, dreams, philosophies, and whatever else strikes us. I have always been more comfortable with men friends than women, and definitely prefer someone around my own age and life experience level.

I am not all that impressed by comments or compliments on my looks, so please find something else to say if you don't mind. If you decide to send me a message, I'd appreciate some sort of introduction beyond just "hi," especially if your profile is woefully thin of information. And it would be nice if you read my profile before asking me a bunch of questions that I've already answered.
Hobbies & Interests
I enjoy singing, puzzles, reading, emailing, my job as a librarian, crocheting, movies, dark chocolate, Italian food and seafood, and spending time with family and friends, not necessarily in that order.
Favorite Music
Classical, the bigger the better -- orchestral, choral but not opera. I also enjoy Top 40 from the 1970s and 1980s. Bach, Brahms, Beethoven, Wagner, ELO, Styx, Aerosmith, and some folksy stuff like Dan Fogelberg, Mamas & the Papas are some of my favorites. I also enjoy movie soundtracks by Hans Zimmer and Henry Gregson-Williams. I've also become enthralled with some of Disney's live action remakes like Beauty & the Beast & Aladdin.
Favorite Movies
Too many to mention, lots of genres, classic and schlocky alike. A couple of my all-time favorites are "Silent Running" (I still cry every time) and "Knight's Tale". I also like classics "Big Country" and "Where Eagles Dare". My guilty pleasures are "Xanadu" from the 1980s and "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time". Love the Star Trek reboot series. Greatest Showman, Marvel, DC, Star Wars...
Favorite TV Shows
To some extent, I'm a TV junkie. I love watching movies, but also the occasional dramatic series. Never saw a reality show (except a couple of finals of "The Voice" when local talent was on), don't want to see any. Lost my funny bone years ago, so don't really watch much in the way of comedies, even the supposed "good" ones.
Favorite Books
"To Kill a Mockingbird"; "Pride & Prejudice" and other Jane Austen classics; Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" series; murder mystery/lawyer fiction a la James Patterson, John Grisham, Michael Connelly, Elizabeth George, etc., Vince Flynn's "Mitch Rapp" series; Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden series; among others.
Favorite Quotes
"For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." -- St. Paul's letter to the Romans, 8:38-39.

"The grand essentials of happiness are: something to do, something to love, and something to hope for." -- Allan K. Chalmers
