Reaching Out Through Love and Service

The Christian life is meant to be shared. Not only are we to be salt and light in this world but we’re to be God’s ambassadors, witnesses, and proclaimers of the Good News. Yet many Christians, probably even many sitting in our Bible classes, don’t reach out.

Yes, we are commanded to be witnesses (Acts 1:8). Jesus commissioned His followers to “Go and make disciples of all nations” (Matt. 28:19-20). While obedience to our gracious and merciful Lord should be enough to get believers involved in outreach, I still find many without a bent toward reaching out. That suggests that we need to get beyond the commands to a better understanding of the mindset and heart that will propel believers to reach out more.

I teach and lead because God has called us to do so. For thousands of years God has asked and equipped teachers to participate in the work of helping others come to know God and live as people of faith. These teachers and leaders have come in many shapes and forms, from many backgrounds, and with many levels of ability. we need to learn to reach out to others through love and service.
