About Me
Starving artist teaches English in China.

This is my six word autobiography.  I hope it conveys the idea that I am not actually starving.  I'm doing okay.  The food here
is delicious.
Now I'm retired from teaching and I'm back in the USA.
But I still want to actively direct the Zhuhai Institute of American Culture.  I'd like to stay in touch with all my friends in China.
Requests
Have a look at the photos I was able to upload thanks to help from a kind member on this site.  I want to establish the
Zhuhai Institute of American Culture to introduce my Chinese students to the cultural wealth of America.

I'm now back in my home town of Cincinnati, Ohio, but the art collection of the Zhuhai Institute of American Culture is now part of the permanent collection of the Gu Yuan Museum of Art in Zhuhai.
Hobbies & Interests
I have to say listening to music is my hobby.  I have no musical ability, other than outragously bad karaoke on occasion.
Painting is my reason for being.  And I like poetry.
Favorite Music
Opera and jazz.
"Der Rosenkavalier"  is my favorite opera (right now).
Charles Lloyd is my favorite jazz player.  I also like Monk.
Favorite Movies
Blues Brothers, Casablanca, Bicycle Thief, Le Notte di Cabiria,
Babette's Feast, King of Hearts, Nostalghia,  anything by
Fellini or Tarkhovsky.
Favorite TV Shows
I think "glee" is a great TV show and a great way to present lots
of American music and American culture to my Chinese students.
That's why every week here at the Zhuhai Institute of American
Culture we have a meeting of the Saturday Night "glee" club.
Students watch and discuss an episode of "glee"

I would really like to introduce my Chinese students to
"The Andy Griffith Show"  !!!  It would be an excellent introduction to Americana.
Favorite Books
Anna Karennina,  Ulysses,  Huckleberry Finn, On the Road, Augie March, American Pastoral, Madame Bovary, Beloved,...etc
Favorite Quotes
"Human speech is a cracked kettle on which we tap out crude rhythms for bears to dance to, when what we really want is to make music that will melt the stars."
                                                     --Gustave Flaubert
