I consider myself as an outgoing person. Serious when I have to be serious, but I enjoy a nice healthy laugh when the circumstances allow it. I firmly believe in friendship because I consider it as God's greatest gift to us. Friendship is not limited by age, knowledge, wealth, sex, culture, race nor any other characteristic or situation: friendship is seeing oneself in the other person's eyes, i.e. identify myself with the other person; it means trust, understanding, sharing, helping, learning from the other person, participating in another person's life, and most of all, a deep respect and deference toward the other person. I firmly believe in the dignity of the human being, and I base this idea on the fact that I consider every person as son and daughter of the Most High God, and that in itself is sufficient for me to profoundly respect any person.
One of the things I dislike the most is violence. Violence in any of its forms: terrorism, intolerance, brawls, domestic violence, injustice, insults, pride, insolence, drugs, prostitution, pornography, crime, theft, calumny, most of all, War, and anything that might denigrate or destroy a human being. And by the same token, I dislike when there is a destruction of the environment: pollution, unnecessary hunting, destruction of animals, felling of trees, etc. I am certain that the cause of all evil and problems in history (and the family) is selfishness.
I am teaching Philosophy, Psychology, Latin, and Humanities in two high schools here in Costa Rica. In one of the schools I teach Philosophy in English, the rest are in Spanish. During class I am rather strict (my students say "very"), but in recess or interclass periods, I try to be with my students: I speak their language, I try to share with them as much as I can and at their level.
I strive to live my everyday life according to the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ (alas, I do not make such a good job at it, but I am trying). I am a Benedictine brother living out of the cloister walls; this means that I am committed to follow the Rule of St. Benedict, albeit living in the world. We have a programme here in Costa Rica to help the homeless boys; to this day we have raised 42 boys and 4 girls. Presently, I have adopted as my own a pair of twins, who are now 13 years old (I've had them since they were 3 years old), and I greatly love them.
My favorite colour is blue, and my favorite gem is lapis lazuli.
I love the beach and when on vacation, we try to spend most of the time there; but the mountain is also my place, especially if there are trees.
I have a degree in psychology, my specialty is Adolescent Psychology; but I have had to study many things in my life: history, ancient Greek, Latin, philosophy, etc.
My father was English (Alcester), my mother was French (Carcassone), I was born in Germany, I learned to speak Spanish in Cuba, I learned how to read and write in Spanish in Costa Rica. I have lived in Vienna with my brother. And as a child I had to travel lots with my parents.
My favorite period in history are the Middle Ages. And I do not like modern art, neither in paintings, sculpture, nor architecture.
I am more of a realist than romantic. I like seeing things as they are, no matter how painful.
Requests

Hobbies & Interests
I collect coins and medals or decorations. I am specially interested in finding a Cross used by the Russian high aristocrats: the Cross of the Order of St. George, it is in white enamel and in its centre it has a figure of St. George, and worn around the neck of the uniform; see 'photo above.
Favorite Music
Gregorian Chant, Medieval music, baroque and classic: Vivaldi, Boccherini, Corelli; Mozart, Haydn, H
Favorite Movies
Any and all on crime or murder, especially if they are based on a true story, Walt Disney type: Ice Age, Dancing Feet, and the like. Not love stories, nor Chinese jumping jacks, nor about horses, cowboys, Indians, children, talking animals. and great legends or immaginary heroes. Last great movies seen were "The Changelyn" and "Doubt".
Favorite TV Shows
Movies as described above, CSI, Law and Order, Forensic Detectives, History Channel, Discovery Channel.
Favorite Books
Greek plays, especially Euripides. Biographies: the two best I've read are "Nicholas and Alexandra", and "Marie Antoinnete" of S. Zweig. Agatha Christi, and Sherlock Holmes. Any book on the Middle Ages. My favorite philosophers are Aristotle and St. Thomas Aquinas. My favorite painters are Velazquez, VerMeer, Rembrandt, F. Coello.
