No, I've never been to The Gambia. Never closer than Marrakech. I know The Gambia from my childhood wall map of the world, when there was a British colony on the lower reaches of the river at the coast, with a capital, Bathurst; then a "protectorate" upstream. What did the British extract from Gambia? Cocoa? Ground nuts? Gold from inland sources?
