Hello James.
I saw a report about the problems of trees decline in the forest of France . The only solution could be to plant new species from south that resist to heat and drought. During the last millenaries the trees evoluted and changed of regions following the climate but that needed a lot of time. Now only an action of the man that can do that even if in the same time humankind destroys more and more forests. As you like South America you note that the Amazonian forest continue to loose surfaces. It's a drama for all humankind. Sadly it's not the action of animals that could disperss enough seeds to reforest the planet.

I didn't know that primates were big seed dispersers of fruit trees apart from the human being. I know that a lot of seeds resist to digestion and could be disseminate like that. Concerning apples trees I red that bears were the first selectors of them before human being spreaded it on Earth.
