Stendhal, "The Red and the Black". French literature, my favourite (It's even available online for free).
If you're into spirituality, I recommend reading Paulo Coelho.
If you prefer commercial books, Dan Brown ain't bad. I read "Inferno" recently which, all in all, was a good read.
